Default 89 Clubcar worth buying?

I found an '89 CC in my area for $450. Trying to figure out if its worth buying or not. Its a project and pretty ugly but seems to be complete and it runs.

Is it a problem to get parts for a cart this old?

What do I need to look out for with this brand and year?

The body is ugly and was painted a while ago judging by the condition. I have seen the body kits (online) that are vacuum formed colored ABS plastic. They seem to sell for around $430 for the front and rear. Unless the quality on these is bad I'd probably go this route. Thoughts?

It needs a new muffler, a couple of tires, and seat covers. It doesn't have a canopy but if I need one I'd look for used.

I'd like to put a rear seat on it. How necessary are the HD springs?

Not sure what else I'd need to do with it.

I've been looking for a cart for a while now and though newer they all seem to be in the $2k range without rear seat (in this area). I figure I might be able to get this one looking okay for about $1300.

I would appreciate some advise. Thanks!

yes some of the parts are very hard to find and the parts you find well they arn,t cheap......if it needs a mufflar figure about 150.00 right there if you can still find it.....i think you can...............but if its a running cart? if your gonna put 1200 or so in it you might want to keep shopping.......now me i love that old flathead engine but thats just me......................

I've been looking for a golf cart for a while but I can't seem to find anything in my area for under $2k. That's with a rear seat either already there or with me adding one.

I guess the thing I worry about is the reliability. Don't want it breaking down somewhere in the neighborhood. That would be inconvenient.

Do you know which parts are hard to find? Where's the cheapest online place(s) for parts?

Thanks

I think $450 is a good price for a running cart as long as its not smoking. I bought an 1987 gas cc last year for $900. The cart was super clean body wise and the engine needed routine maintenance, but the thing is a tank.

Between this forum, craigslist, and ebay there are still parts around for these carts, but they are pretty pricey as was mentioned above.

I appreciate the input.

Any experience as to what might or will cause problems on this cart?

What to inspect before buying?

Problem areas?

Thanks!

Well, I bought the cart this weekend. Seems to be running okay at the moment. Hopefully it will keep going. I do need to get a new muffler though. Its hard to pay 30+% of the price of the cart for a muffler. I posted a wanted for a used one in the classified. Thanks again.
