Cool Full Rebuild/Short Block/Just Top End

I have a 2003 Club Car with an FE290, it runs great, no knocks or noises, starts easy and runs strong, However, sometimes under heavy load it smokes a bit. I am thinking it is getting a little blow by.....So here is the question?

Should I be lazy and just buy a fully rebuilt short block, attempt a full rebuild myself, or just freshen up the top end?

I am capable with the tools, I have restored an old Chevy truck and have rebuilt many car engines.....so the work doesn't scare me. I just don't want to put too much money into this thing.....it is just used for hunting and fishing on our farm, I am trying to buy another 4 wheeler, and building a cabin ...... so every buck counts.....

any thoughts......I would really like to just freshen the top end!

almost every C.C. i see will puff a bit of smoke here and there it seems the longer you drive it.....but if you insist why not just do the top end that would be all you really need..........me i think i would live with it.......even after you do the top end how long before it puffs a bit of smoke......just my opinion.................

well I hear you, but it puffs a little more than I am comfortable with, I have been living with it for awhile.....maybe I am just picky....

Save the bucks for shooting, hone the walls and drop in new rings.
Maybe some seals while its out.

that's an interesting thought.....even if it buys me a year or so what could it hurt.....don't worry Shadowman....I didn't take offense to your smoking comment.....when my son holds the throttle all the way open going up a steep hill with a full load of people on it......well you get the idea

I really like the idea of just rings and valve seals......

Mine is doing the exact same thing, so a mate from work who has a side business doing up anything with wheels is doing the rings, piston and seals. For a few hundred it's well worth it in my opinion.
