Unhappy Patience is a Virtue, and Saves Money!

Hi Everyone....here is an update on my cheap top end rebuild. Was trying to just ring it.....all was going well until I couldn't find my piston ring compressor. It was late Friday night and I was impatient.....decided to try compressing the rings by hand.....not good. One of the oil rings popped out and scratched all the way down the cylinder wall. Oh well, now I get to bore it and replace the piston......just a little patience would have saved me.

so check this out....here is the mess that I created, but with some extra time I polished the valve cover, and with info from this site I made an adjustable snubber to compensate for my lift.

First pic:

kinda' messy!

Second pic:

I love the polished and painted valve cover! VERY cool!

Third pic:

A couple of suggestions...
1) you should use stainless bolts and stainless nylock nuts for the top two!
2) you should have replaced your snubber before gluing it on... but you should be ok for a while with your old one!

I am sure your right about the snubber, but I think if I spend much more money on this thing I will have to get my divorce finalized.

I figure most of the time over the past few months, I had no snubber, since it kept falling off. So anything is better, I did check it out it is pretty pliable and soft, so I think I will be OK. Didn't know about the lift kit thing....makes perfectly good sense just didn't think it through, if it gets bad I will just grind it off.

Couldn't resist on the polishing, did the visible part of the drive clutch too.....looks pretty cool. I switched back to the stock spring, I was afraid one of my kids was going to lunge it through the side of the barn. Hopefully this will make for low rpm starts, I know I will lose some torque but I prefer the walls in tact to torque

oh I almost forgot.....I have to agree on the kinda messy....I am in the process of building a barn, so I currently have my Harley Fat Boy (see behind the cart), my garden tractor, three 4 wheelers, one dirt bike, and 5 bicycles all shoved in this area, in addition to softball and soccer gear.....my kids are very active and I coach. You can't even see the real mess......

I was just messin' with you Doc!
I refuse to take a pic of my garage... Because...well... it's a "Pig Sty"!

Nobody wants to get a divorce over a "silly" golf car! oh wait...I sort of did!
And once you get your cart up and running again, I'm sure the wife will be happy with you again... ummm... maybe?

Anyways, I really like what you did with your valve cover, it's a cool, cheap accent!

Don't worry you didn't offend anyone, I am way past that....and my wife has way more reasons than the golf cart.....let's see, it's the farm, or maybe the tractor and all the equipment, maybe it's the bowhunting all fall, or how about the Harley rides, or maybe the 4 wheelers, or maybe the fishing, or maybe the IDGAC attitude......just kidding all in good fun. I am not really a Dr. although I am just a couple of hours shy....."R" is just my middle initial....always have fun checking into hotels.....I am a mfr's rep and travel all the time.... my AMEX shows up as Dr. Lenger......has been a nickname since my fraternity days in college!

I will post some additional pictures when I get it all put back together, I plan on cleaning and dressing it all up while I put it back......then maybe a pick with a big deer in the back this fall!

Hey Doc,

I had customer cart come in the other day for a service and he had a pair of vice grips clamping the snubber mount to the frame because there was no snubber left. I fix all before riding and wish I would have got a picture of it. LOL
