Default New Member - 2003 Club Car

Picking up a 2003 Club Car tomorrow. Has rear seat, roof, windshield and lights. Look to be very clean. 70 year old owner says it is in great condition and never had a problem with it.

What hidden issues should I be looking for or be checking out when I look at it? Also, My future plans are to lift it and add some beefier tires. Any advice on must haves would be appreciated. Curious about performance upgrades and do's and dont's as well. Best bang for buck mods?

Thanks all.

Welcome to the forum-You will find some very high tech help here so don't hesitate to ask for help. Also hit the "search" with a problem and you can access a lot of answers as well. When you need parts or equipement use site sponsors. They are out to help us and wouldn't be around if they tried to play games.

Is your CC a Sparky or a Gasser??

Pick up a mntce. manual either by downloading from one of the Wild Ones in the Forum or off of ebay. Also run the searches and you will find you can get oil/air filters as well as gas line filters off the shelf at an auto parts store a lot cheaper than from Club Car dealer. Do your own Mntce. if you can as well. Change oil & diff. gear oil also along with new filter if not already done. Take some time and decide if you have a need for speed. If so you will have caught the desease like all of us. Don't worry it will only cost you money!! Ask for help as you go along. Take lots of pictures for any changes as we like to see what is being done. Good luck.

Sorry-I thought you had bought it already. If it is a dealer cart. Ask for a list of any mntce. items they have completed. Have fluids all been changed. Is there any warranty period (30/60 days??) If from a private party ask if it cam off of a golf course fleet. Look for scrapes & bruises and is the motor well clean and look well maintained. Drive it more than around the block & get it warmed up/ Check front tires for uneven wear. Is windshield in good shape, any cracks??. Are the seat covers worn out? I don't know the price level in your area but I just bought a very clean 2004 CC gaser last weak for an update project and paid $1,900 here in Washington state. runs smooth and mntce was excellent.

Check and sniff the oil for gasoline odor. Oil should be nice and clean. Black indicates sloppy maintenance. Ditto the air filter, pull the cover and see if it looks decent inside the box. Check the brakes, make sure it pulls up nice and smooth and square, steering should be smooth with no slop. Have someone check from behind for smoke from the exhaust. There should be none. Normal scuffs on the body are to be expected, the PO might have been careful but the idiots around him are not to be trusted. Don't get me started on performance upgrades, there are many simple mods to give it some wallop and the skies the limit to give it some serious pop. Finally, go with your gut instinct. A sincere seller is often the best person to buy from. The people here are great and will give you all the help you need to go from mild to wild.
Good luck with your buy and welcome to BGW

Chris.

Well, here she is. One look and I new I was buying it even without a test drive. 70 year old owner who flat out babied the thing. Thinking I got a good deal. $2,000. Even has under carriage lights and chrome SS hub caps.

Got her home and took her out on the road with my gps. Maxed out at 12mph. Definitely need more speed but do not wish to jeopardize the reliability of the engine too much. Been doing a lot of reading and research. What is the general census on best low cost bang for the buck? Say maybe $100-$150. Wire tie, spring, clutch milling and tach?

I will be lifting and adding bigger tires over the winter. Just looking for something quick to boost my speed for the remainder of the summer. I would be happy seeing 18-20mph (more later I'm sure )but, again, don't want to risk endangering the motor.

A good looking ride!! You got a good buy, that back seat is a $350.+ item alone!! I don't know that much about speed for the gasser. I have been with Sparkies until now. I will watch for some speed tips as well to use on my '04. I am afraid you may have to increase your budget to hit the 18/20mph. Watch the RPMs if you bypass that limiter. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.
