Default k&N Air intake install, right or wrong

I know this does not look right, but I just can't see to figure out ow to get the airbox cover competely off to try to get it in there, then I took a guess and tried this, it works, but backfires quite a bit. sounds great, but I am guessing its not right. can anyone help and let me know how to install it correctly. I would love to see a photo of it installed. here is how I have it now.

Thanks for the help

I think that will work but you may need to adjust your mixture screw to keep it from back firing.

I went to go start it this morning and it would not move, the engine was running, but the rpms were not increasing enough to get it moving, so I put the old filter back on and it stared right up. Any thoughts?

Where'd you get that thing? Call the people you got the air filter from and see how they set it up.

Been there / Tried that - You're better off staying with the stock airbox...

Heavydc2
The filter you have is not really paired with the jet you have. You will probably have to go larger on the jet size as the K&N without the airbox will let in ALOT more air.

The filter that fits in the airbox is a flat panel just like the original except it is made by K&N thats the filter that is paired with the jet you have.

Thats why we made the Performance Exhaust Kit.
It contains the proper filter, Larger carb jet, and Stainless exhaust header with muffler and new gaskets all made to "work together" and offers you a nice 15-20% gain.

Give me a call and we can determine whats best for you situation
