Default rattling noise on my club car

i purchased a club car gas golf cart a few weeks ago. and it has a rattle when driving in coming from rear area. i was told it was the secondary clutch making it, none of the teeth are missing but if i put it on jackstands it does sound like its coming from that area. it could also be the rear end but it dont vibrate or anything. has anybody had this issue before? if it is the clutch do i need a whole new unit or one of the rebuild kits?

also this is the slowest cart ive ever drove. could this be a sign of the clutch going bad? how can i test it to verify if it is clutch or rear end? without just buying parts and hope that is it?

What teeth ? The pucks ? Your secondary is retained only by a keyway and a bolt John.

Chris.

i dont know the name so i have to describe it the best way i can, lol... its the 3 triangle shaped things that are over the spring on the center shaft. is there any other peice inside the clutch that can cause a bad rattling noise? if not how hard is it to replace the gears in the rear? where would i get some from?

its not a rattle like a muffler, its a lil bit deeper sound than that.

it could be the clutch yes........they are set to go 12 mph is it slower than that? clutch belt could be worn or it could be the driven clutch the one making the noise..............................

I have the same issue, and it's really starting to bug me. After having the drive clutch rebuilt and disabling the governor, my cart reached 21 mph at 4,000 rpm.

Soon after that, I began to notice a rattle at higher speeds. A local shop quickly diagnosed it as a bad driven clutch, so I installed new one over the winter.

The noise changed. A "clacking" sound disappeared, but the rattle remains. In fact, the rattle has increased. At first, it occurred only at speeds above 13-15 mph and it stopped while under load. Now it's present nearly all the time above 10 mph.

I'm running on fresh gear oil and the replacement clutch appeared to be factory-fresh, but I guess I can't rule it out as being bad too...

ya this is what mine is doing. if i put around it wont do it, soon as i get going it will do it maybe over 5mph or so. i can lift back end up on jackstands and it will do it with or without a load on it. it really sounds like its coming from the sec clutch but maybe rear i can get my head in close enough. i tried using the old broomhandle to your ear on the rearend and you can hear it. cant really do it to the clutch, lol

I had the same issue on my 84 DS. Thinking it was one of the clutches, I did some troubleshooting. Took the belt off and ran it...still there, so had to be the drive clutch. After installing a brand new drive clutch, it still rattled at high RPM's and not under load/low RPM's. Then I thought the exhaust bracket was loose...nope. Took it to a mechanic and had it checked out...the sound was internal to the motor...possibly rod knock. Sounds like you guys are having the same issue.

Mine makes more of a "squeak" than rod nock - too high-pitched and intermittent to be internal to the engine, imo. Directionally, it also seems to come from the rear-end instead of the engine.

Here's a sample in maintenance mode, but for the record, it seems considerably worse while underway.
