Default Cart "jerks hard" on start

I've got a 97 CC that "jerks" into motion when the throttle is pressed. It's like the engine winds up a bit too much then the drive clutch finally pops open very roughly. This is not even flooring it, but just lightly pressing on the gas.

Any ideas what would be causing this to happen? could something in the drive clutch be worn out? maybe the thrust washer?

Thanks for any ideas, or suggestions you can provide.

It could be an accumulation of dust / dirt in the clutch/es Dave. Remove the belt and run the motor while you check the action of the driven clutch, if it doesn't transition smoothly there's your answer. If it does; pop the belt back on and put the cart in maintenance mode, repeat the test and this time observe the driven for the same transition. Another possible cause for the surge in take-off is a broken throttle butterfly. I just had one this week that had broken away from the spindle and as soon as you gassed it to start it jerked off on full throttle. Similar symptoms.
Hope that helps.

Thanks, it's definitely in the drive clutch, and it's not a surge, its a HARD jerk. Seems like the clutch just stays closed too long, then when it opens it opens VERY abruptly.

Weights sticking?
Thrust washer worn too much?
something else?
