Default Drive Clutch Thurst Washer Wear

I had my drive clutch off to install the 200 prm power spring and looking over the internals after blowing it out good i noticed the clutch buttons were pretty worn so I ordered new ones of those now after looking at the thurst washer further im not sure it doesn't need to be replaced also? Is it supposed to be flat? It has a groove worn in it almost like a bearing race... Is it possible to flip it over and run on the backside which is flat for a little more life? I think my next move is new weights & thrust washer... Any input would be awesome.

Yes it is but I'm not sure its hardened on both sides. I would imagine that for a washer of that size it would be simpler to harden the whole thing but why not just order a new replacement ?

i would think flipping it would groove the other side and it would not need to groove the other side as far to thin it enough to split it into two pices. i think if it was mine , i would go ahead and spend the 4 bucks for the new thrust washer and replace it while its all apart now, and for that matter i would replace every thing myself, but thats me i kinda hate tearing stuff apart to put it back together with half worn out stuff with the new. to me on a clutch i would think of it as im giving myself half power from the start.

i plan on replacing it. just dropped a grip of money on the thing kind of want to play some before i drop more money on it again. the clutch is easy enough to remove. going to do the weights/washer in the near future. can the washer be flipped over to be used until i do the repairs? the cart is a 91 and the washer isnt worn but maybe 25% depth tops. I think the backside could handle a month or 2 of use...

I don't see why ya can't. I don't think the is a top n bottom on them. They are just prety much a common harden washer. And you'll gain back from what you have lost were it's cut out the groove, so don't forget to replace. I would still put it in new just so I didn't forget or something, it's cheap enough

Like I said, the washer is thin enough that the case hardening was probably an overall process as opposed to just one surface and I have precious little doubt that you can flip it over and use the other side but what if you break through it at higher rpm's down the line ? Pieces of steel are going to be pinging around in there and you may sustain a lot more damage than if you just replaced it now with a known new item. Do it right and not have to worry about it.

I/we flipped my buddies 94 thrust washer over, (He was in a hurry to get it all back together) but his wasn't near THAT worn!

IMO it needs to be replaced as soon as you can!

Ordered the weight kit and thrust washer from cpp. Gonna measure the wear on the old thrust washer one day just for the heck of it.

Don't expect too much more speed... but the all around performance will be noticeable!
