Default Some lift/tire questions

Now that I have my '87 DS running good and will have some lights for nighttime operation, I'm considering putting a 6" lift and 22" wheel/tire combo on it. Although I am aware that the motor on these is not terribly powerful (flathead) it seems to be in great running order... So I'm wondering will it be powerful enough to turn the new wheel/tire combo? I have some minor hills where I live, but nothing overwhelming. I plan to do the clutch mods recommended in the sticky because i'm sure they're worn out given the age, but figured these could be used on a bigger motor in the future if necessary. Also, after the clutch mods, is there much else I can do to get a little more torque/power out of the old girl until she blows? I won't necessarily be trying to kill it, but I won't cry if it dies either, because then I have an excuse to buy a bigger/more modern engine... Incidentally, what's the easiest/bolt-in upgrade motor to use for replacement? Sorry about all the questions, just rattling off what comes to mind! Thanks and feel free to respond to any or all the questions-

I had a 88 CC with a 6" lift and 25" tires. It was pretty doggy. It didn't have any clutch mods on it either.
I sold it.

I too have an 88 CC and originally had the KF82 with a 6" lift and 22" tires. It did ok, if yours is running good you might/should be fine after the clutch mods.

hmm.... this doesn't sound promising... Starting to sound like the new motor may be closer than I thought...

My '87 is plain stock on the engine and it runs pretty well with the 6" lift and 22" tires. You can see a pic of it here: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/lifte...ot-lifted.html

Not tested on big hills but where we run in the campground and in the fields it's been fine. Thinking about the clutch machining, clutch buttons and upgrade spring for next summer. I don't want it too fast, too many of our drunk friends ride it and I don't need them killing themselves.

I had an 86 with a 6 inch lift and 22s. Ungoverned it did good enough for what it was.
