Default Boogered wiring

I have what I was told is a '99 Carryall 272. The wiring looks iffy. On the front bottom side of the engine is a black electrical box (regulator?) There are some wires coming out of it that are cut and left and another wire wired to 2 wires. Looks like someone bypassed something. Sorry I don't remember the colors right now.

It runs ok, except it dies when you let off the gas pedal very much. Then starts back going when you press it again. It's very hard to putt around slowly. Something is killing the engine when the pedal reaches a certain point. Is this related to the wires or an adjustment issue?

Thanks

well depending on how its setup golfcarts stuf off when you let off the pedal and than start again when you press it.....thats perfectly normal.....now some newer ones are more like cars where they just keep running but i don,t think a 99 was setup like that...........the black box may be a rpm limitor.....wires black and brown?...........................

Yes, this is like it dies when you barely let off the pedal. It's like you have to keep the throttle better than 50%, just a guess. You can't ride around slow.

Seems like the wires may have been black and brown, maybe white. I'll have to look again. I remember one went to a ground and was cut. The little box is about 2"x3" maybe?

Yes it is the rev-limiter, a device used to protect the motor from being over revved. It has nothing to do with problem you describe. My guess is the PO adjusted the throttle too tight trying to get the cart to go faster (& disconnected the rev limiter).
Follow the accelerator cable to a black box. Inside find the throttle cable adjustment where it enters the box ~ back it off a 1/4 inch and see if that improves the situation.

OK thanks! I'll try that this weekend. It's dark when I get home during the week.

Wonder why two of the wires are wired to a single wire that best I remember goes to the back around the generator?

its quite possible the rev limitor is bad and thats why they cut the wires but you,ll know that if you hook it back up cart won,t run or will run till it gets hot and than won,t re-start..............and as scotty said has nothing to do with your pedal issue but so you know your cart is supposed to shut off when you let off pedal and re-start when you press it again...............its sounds like someone has been messing with things they didn,t know much about....................

That sounds like the + connection to the coil and the kill micro switch. Power flows to the coil at start but is grounded at throttle pedal release to stop the spark. Is this it ?

Yes, that's the part #18 looks like. And maybe I used the wrong terminology saying let off. When I "ease up" on the pedal to slow down it kills the engine, but then soon as I press the pedal more it goes on like it should. I'm thinking maybe the cable adjustment?

if your easing up on pedal to much than yes its gonna shut off theres a microswitch in the black box where cable goes that opens, closes everytime tou press and let off pedal but it shouldn,t shut off until pedal is all the way released so thats a starting point adjusting the low speed idle cable thats the cable scotty is referring to....................................

Yes,Like Tom was saying, the cable adjustment will automatically change the kill switch engagement timing.
