club car won't rev as high now
hey ive got an 02 club car that i put a lift on and zip tied the governor. i was hitting the rev limiter at about 20 miles and hour. i mailed my driven clutch off and had it machined and put the power spring in. after this i was hitting the rev limiter at about 25 miles an hour and just over 4000 rpms. i had also installed a tiny tach at this point. my next step was to install a performance exhaust kit. i removed the old exhaust and put the new header and muffler on. then i was going to try and unhook the rev limiter and i mistakenly thought that this was done in the black box. i unhooked a black wire off a post and taped it up. i test drove the cart and was only getting about 3500 rpms out of it. i figured this must not have been the rev limiter bypass so i untaped the connector and hooked the wire back up. i took the cart out again and had the same result. then i assumed it needed the new jet and k&n air filter for everything to work properly so i installed the bigger jet drilled 4 holes in the airbox and installed the k&n. then i unhooked the rev limiter ground strap on the front of the engine and taped it up. today when i drove it i could not get anymore than about 3200 rpms and it just felt sick. my dad was blowing by me on his cart with just bigger tires and a zip tied governor. can anyone help me figure out what is going on? thanks

Make sure your throttle linkage is allowing your carb butterfly to open up all the way. How far do you have to move the foot peddle before the cart starts and what is the position of the butterfly at that point? Also how tight is that ziptie on the governor spring?

Re: club car won't rev as high now
ill have to check on your other questions but i have two or three zip ties tightened all the way on the governor spring. i think you could be on the right track. maybe after the exhaust change i need to extend the throttle linkage out some more. at least that is what im hoping.

Re: club car won't rev as high now
Plug the holes in the air box OR get a new one!!!
Club Cars are VERY "Air Sensitive" at the intake! it's critical that there is some vacuum in the airbox for proper air/fuel mixture! (I also did that figuring that more air flow is better... I was wrong! so, I had to replace the bottom of my air box to get it to run better!) As for your rev limiter, (#22) remove the bolt and wire eyelet (#1) on the left bolt of the limiter, tape it up and reinstall the bolt. (Is that the wire you you disconnected?) |

Re: club car won't rev as high now
hey guys you cant fix stupid. when i put the carburator back on i didnt put the plastic guard back on top which is fine but you have to put the bolt back in the metal bracket that holds the throttle cable or it flexes. i took a quick glance yesterday when i wasnt as hot or pissed and saw that issue. when i took it for a spin yesterday i was turning about 4200 rmps and i didnt have my gps to check speed. i will do that today. thanks for your help.

Re: club car won't rev as high now
Don't wanna Jack your thread but this is along the lines of my question. So I pulled the rev limiter and tied the spring now I get an oil light am I pushing the motor to hard? Oil level seems to be good but I am surenit needs an oil change. Wanna get the speed out of it but don't need to go crazy or break it.

Re: club car won't rev as high now
Get a tach, change the oil and keep it under 4200 rpm...otherwise you`re going to have a blown motor or in the least some expensive repairs.
