Default New member here and just bought 1989 club car.....

I just bought a 1989 Club Car gas DS powered golf cart from a friend...$500. I hope I got a decent deal. Anyways, what would you suggest as the first few things I should do to it, mechanically speaking. Change the oil? Brakes? Are there specific things with the motor I should inspect? Any other good ideas?

I have only taken the cart to the course 2 times. Steering is badly out of alignment...or something worse? But not too many other issues. Are there ways to increase the top speed of these models?

Your feedback s greatly appreciated! Thank you

that cart should have the kf82 engine good engine but it does have some problems the nylon cam gear is riveted to the cam and is something that gets loose over time. You should drill rivets out and replace with bolts and nyloc nuts.Only so much performance you can get out of such a small bore, your almost better off getting motor to run well and spending time and money on the clutches. If you do get into motor maybe machine head for higher compression just becareful you dont want to go to far.But that is a good cart and you got a good deal as long as everythings there

Change oil and put in some oil additive that will clean her up inside. I used Marvel Mystery Oil http://www.marvelmysteryoil.com/index.php. Just a little in the crankcase then ran it hard for the weekend and changed the oil again complete with more Marvel. Change the plug and air filter as well. New belts might be a good idea too. Brakes you already mentioned. As for your front end problem I pulled the front end off my '87 model when I put my lift kit on. I think it might fit your '89. If you get into yours and you need a complete front end I'm sure we can work out a deal. Good luck with her, it turns into quite an addiction!
