You can check the color of the wires for the key switch in the dash to see which ones match with this diagram! (no guarantees!)
The left pic is for a pedal start, and the right is for a key start! |

Lockman, I need some more help. If the RPM limiter is bad, will it show a short at the key switch. Also, how can I tell if my cart is a pedal start or key start?

Re: 04 club car carryall 6
For the rev limiter:
You can disconnect the ground wire (wire with an "eye loop" going to the left hand mounting bolt) and see if it starts! There is a bench test with a multimeter also, (per my manual) but even Club Car says it may not be that accurate! For the key-start/pedal-start: If you look at the diagram, the pedal-start key switch has 7 wires, and the key-start has 8 wires, the one additional wire is green, not found on the pedal-start vehicles. And another: On my 07 "pedal-start" FE350... just behind the cylinder head, it has a bright yellow sticker that says: "W/O ACR" (without automatic compression relief) An ACR is for key-start engines only! (up to 2010 anyways) and I don't know if a key-start engine will have an "W/ACR" tag or not! And last... a compression check: (IF you can get it to turn over without a key switch) With a wide open throttle, while turning it over, a pedal-start engine will have around 156 psi compression, and a key-start engine will have around 71 psi. (due to the ACR) There may be more ways to tell a key-start from a pedal-start cart, but, those are the only ones that I know of! Hope this helps! |

Re: 04 club car carryall 6
Hey Lockman, thanks for the info. Worked great. Found out that i have a Key start cart. I have another question on the REV limiter. I have two wires coming from the REV limiter. They are both White/Black. One goes to the Relay in the Electrical box by the Solenoid, and the other goes to the dash area. I dont know where the White/Black wire at dash hooks up to? Do you have any idea where it hooks up. Thanks.
Thank Goodness for the RAIN. Fires have been slow. |

Re: 04 club car carryall 6
IF your talking about the one and only white/black wire in the dash,
It goes to the back of the key switch (M+) recheck the key switch wiring in the right hand diagram, Fig. 11-41, that I posted earlier. So tell me... how did you find out it was a key-start cart? did it have an ACR sticker? |

Re: 04 club car carryall 6
And for a little bit of extra info...
The rev limiter's white and black wire should split and tie into the coil, then out... then splits again to the relay in the electrical component box and to the key switch. (according the the manuals schematic) This is all a part of the "engine kill" circuit: Note: disconnect the battery when working on any electrical parts of the cart! (or keep an A,B,C fire extinguisher close by!) |

Re: 04 club car carryall 6
Ok, thanks, i will give that a try. I was told that if i have a relay in the elcetrical box with a green wire, then i have a Key start. Like you said. That Green wire is the difference in the two. I did not find a sticker. Also was told that a Pedal start does not have a Relay and has two micro switches, Mine has One. Thanks for the help.
I will double check the RPM limiter, i didnt see the split in the two wires, but i could have missed it. |

Re: 04 club car carryall 6
Don't worry about the RPM limiter... just get the proper (Club Car) key switch for now, and we'll go from there!
