Question '91 DS- upgrade engine/brakes or new cart?

Is there a direct bolt-in engine swap for the KF-82? Not really interested in going the big-block route but would like a little more muscle as the campground has some pretty steep hills. I'm also time-limited so something that could be done in 2-3 days would be ideal.
If an engine swap is done, I would also do the Cart Parts Plus disc brake kit for some extra peace of mind (those hills are just as steep coming down ). Or would I be better off just to bite the bullet and sell/trade mine for a newer cart?

Next "more muscle" without a big block would be the 350 but it isn't just a "bolt in" Plus upgrade on the drive clutch, coil & a few other goodies makes for $$$. Rather than go this route along with the disc brakes I would chew the bullet & move up to a newer cart with a bigger engine in it aleady. You might also consider a Yamaha gaser as they have more bolt-in options. You can drop a Vangard in with less money & work. With that you would be looking for more hills!!

No disrespect Tim, but I seriously doubt you could bolt in an engine, wire it and have it running properly in two days. Frankly lad, it'd be easier to go out and buy a running cart.

No dis taken, faster. That's why I was wondering about a direct bolt-in. Retired mechanic w/ plenty of tools, just no place to work on the cart. I tried searching here and Googling but came up blank other than going the big block route.
Looks like a new cart is in our future.

Tim,
From another older mechanic, if you could change a motor in a car (back before you retired) in a day in the shop, I don't see any reason why you can't change the motor in your cart in your back yard in a day. As long as you still have all your tools, it should not be an issue. You will need to buy/make a puller for the clutch. You can look it up on buggiesgonewild, not a big deal, but, like so many things, without the right tools, it is next to impossible without bustin something. Other than that, I can't think of anything that would really be a big issue. Far less to worry about on a cart than a car from the 60's and they were easy by todays standards.

the closest you can get to a direct bolt in for the KF-82 is an fe 290 with a retro fit kit......................that makes it almost a direct bolt in..................................

Still have my tools, just no place to work on the cart. My wife and I sold the house and started as work campers the first of May. I'm not sure how long the swap would take if I tried to go big block- that's why I wanted a direct bolt-in. I could easily do that in a day or two and get by with having the cart partially dismantled on the camp site (backed in by the camper so no one would see the back off).

shadowman, the fe-290 wuldn't be much of an upgrade, would it?

There is so much to consider Tim. IF you had every part, wiring, exhaust, cables etc laying to hand then you might get it done but the realistic part is doubtful. Even if the new motor etc just fell into place you still have to consider the re-wiring and re-routing of the carb cable and choke operation. Never mind the fuel lines, air filter assembly and governor assemblies. With a full shop and expertise you might get it done but off the back of a trailer under a tarpaulin? Highly doubtful mate.
Sorry to sound so negative but your expectations may be a little high.

If time is the reason to not go big block then consider it takes just as long as any other engine out there. If you have the money then the CPP kit makes it hours instead of days. I've done 5 of them now and I can pull the engine and everything and have the big block in and driving in around 3 1/2 hours with a friends help.

I get that JcX but you are quoting the expertise of five successful builds, all parts and tools to hand +the help of (I assume) a technically savvy co-worker in a fully equipped shop. That's hardly operating behind an RV in a camp site under time constraints is it ? How long did the first build take ? I'll bet it wasn't close to 3 1/2 hours. The build skill comes through experience and you can't buy experience no matter how clear the instructions are.
