Default 1986 gas Club car couple questions

I have a 1986 Club card that has been in storage for a while now. We lifted the cart and my son messed with the govonor I believe, because it's faster. I have 2 issues that maybe someone on the forum have run into.

1) The cart surges as you crusing hard to hold a steady speeed

2) It has no torque since the new tires and lift kit. I'm assuming it's from
the tire size. Is there a gear ratio change? I know there made for hilly
golf coarses and the cart just won't cut it.

Thank you in advance

The surge in speed could either be the govenor or the rev limiter. Can you describe the surge? Does it slow way down as if it shut off and then speed back up? Does it cut in and out like it's missing?

The torque issue is due to the taller tires. You can try a severe duty belt or a shorter belt along with a spring for the secondary to help recover some of that lost low end grunt.

Yes agree on the taller tire issue. So that needs to be corrected for sure or I won't make it around the lake.

The surges is like a lean surge. It's like it's reall sensitive after my son adjusted the gov. to get more spped out of it which he did. Plus the faster you go at wot it just cuts out. Until you let off the gas. From what I remember

I put a 6" lift on mine without creating any driveability problems, but a few things come to mind. You might double check that the governor is actually disabled. Next, my lift put the engine on an angle which I could see would mess with the float level. Your reference to a lean surge would tend to support this.
Just throwing a couple things out there....

Guess I'll have to do a little more digging in order to get this beauty in shape. I need to correct the surging while driving and no power up hills. I believe I read somewhere about even doing something to the clutch hub. Just want something fun and dependable to beat around on the roads around the lake.

My friend bought a new 21012 RZR and I must say for the short drive I took, I wasn't impressed considering he spent 16,000.000 on it. Pick up wasn't eath shattering. It was noisey in the cockpit and with the doors on the cockpit got a little warm.

I was hoping if a dropped a few thousand into my cart, I can make somethinng fun to drive?

Ok so I looked at the web site for Carts Plus and it looks like the 18HP would take care a lot of my issues. Pretty complete kit with motor, clutch assy, belt and exhaust.

Another question I have is the steering on the cart is a little loose? Is there a steering dampner made for them or anything else that would make the steering a little better?

Thanks in advance guys

You might want to check your King pin bushings, quite often you can snug down the bolts (tend to loosen up) to alleviate this issue. Other than that; check the tie rod ends for slop and grease up the steering shaft assembly. It's often the little details that give issues.
