Default 1992 club car. will idle but dies when try to accelerate.

Alright i'm new to this. I got a golf cart for free. Was told it was wiring problem. Went through carb (clogged up). Has new coil, new ignitor, new spark plug. Is getting fuel. I can get it to idle all day long. Sometimes takes a little bit to actually start. But if I just quick hit the gas it will accelerate. But if hold gas will die within seconds. And all shut down switches and wiring have been bypassed. Muffler is clear. I've been a mechanic for 8 years. Never really dealt with small engines though. It also backfires sometimes so I think I need to adjust the valves

Well it sounds to me that your engine isn't tuned well and your engine is getting flooded. I'm not familiar with older carts though. Is it the type that you press the accelerator pedal and the starter activates, or do you start it and it idles like a car?

You press the pedal and the starter activates it. I have a 92 also. Does sound like it is getting flooded to me to.

Well gas flow is controlled by crankcase pressure. So how would it pump to much. Or am I correct on the adjusting the valves

Yes, the fuel pump is controlled my the vacuum in the crankcase, but the amount of fuel being dumped into your cylinder during your intake stroke is just suffocating your engine. Either you're getting too much fuel or not enough air. It's easy to look over your air filter so I'll suggest that. Make sure your flow is sufficient. I know the newer carts have a choke adjustment, if yours has that, your choke might be so far out of adjustment that as soon as you add any more fuel than idle, the fuel/air mixture is too rich.

I don't think there is one. It's really dependent on where you live

Well I live in MN. There is three screws, idle, main jet, and then one more spring loaded screw that I was told by the guy who went through the carb is the mixture adjustment

1 1/2 turns out is your base starting range. Have you ever tried the "Search" function ? It saves a lot of time waiting for answers that have already been covered.
Not being rude, always happy to help but "search" is your friend.
