Default Motor Stops

Can any budy tell me why my 1989 club car gas cart locks up when you press on the gas? When I turn the clutch a hair it releases untill the motor turns over and at a serton rpm locks up again? To me it just seems like the clutch might be bad.Or could it be the motor?(KF82)

Yes it runs. But will lock up. I just turn the clutch on the motor back a hair and it release it until the motor starts again.

i,m not 100% certain but this is starting to sound like maybe starter belt is worn or loose......they have to be very tight and will do what you decribe.....engine turns over and gets to compression stroke and stops and starter pulley keeps turning.................try to tighten belt it may cure your problem....................................

Thanks for all your help.
It was the motor it just blowed up! I was also wondering if the FE290 engine work on the cart( 1989 club car)? If so what would I need to make it work? I also thought about just rebuilding the FE82.wich eathier way is some money $$$$

Just for an idea...contact Motors and More at 888-846-0055 and check on a price for a rebuilt motor complete...If they dont have one they can rebuild yours quickly and they do a great job.

The crank case is cracked. The piston is shot. The head is scared the oil sincere is done all the other parts seem to be ok in side but I’m not a mechanic. Off hand what do you think it would cost me to rebuild it and would it be worth it in the long run?
