Question Still won't start

Its got spark, clean carb, new plug, fully charged battery, and i adjusted the valves. Turns over well and occasionally backfires but won't start. Only thing not factory is the ground for rpm limiter is disconnected. Wife was riding, said it started ticking (it's done this before),she stopped and it would not restart. stopping and restarting makes the ticking stop. Any ideas?

Yeah, I haven't figured that out either. It sounds like it is coming from the rearend or clutch not the motor.

I don't have a comprehension guage and all i have with me is starting fluid. I'm on vacation at the coast. It does have compression, whether it is enough or not I don't know.

compression must be between 80-120 at least to start cart...that would be the first step...borrow a comp tester or buy a cheap one at harbor freight...All I got bud sorry maybe somebody else will think of another good starting point...The ticking could be...worse case cen..a bent valve...

Bought a compression guage, hooked it up and shows no compression. Guage bounces a little but doesn't build pressure. I guess I'll take the head off and see what I've got.

Haven't tore into it yet. Found a rebuilt motor online for $550 plus core exchange. Couple ?s. This seems cheap for a whole engine, should i be Leary? What would qualify as a good core?
