Kf82 carby hookup
I'm confused about kf82 carby hook up (1988 model). I have rebuilt the engine. I have the line from the crank case hooked up to the pump and the pump to the carby inlet, however, there is a second line going into the carby and i can't figure out what goes to that inlet. Additionally, i have not worked out the purpose of the pressure line from the valve cover. Where does that go and is it part of the carby system or does it go someplace else. And where does the inline filter go?

Re: Kf82 carby hookup
The barb on the crankcase is the pulse line for the fuel pump. The output line from the fuel pump goes up to the carburator, sounds like you got that hooked up right. The 2nd barb on the carb is for a short piece of hose that goes into the back of the air filter housing where it bolts to the carb.

Thanks for that, looks like you did a pretty comprehensive build on your cart. I have one more question, there is an outlet on the valve cover that produces engine pressure. Can you tell me where that outlet is hooked to?

sounds like the pulse line that drives the fuel pump, not sure though i will have to look on mine. does your carburator have a throttle return spring anywhere on it? mine doesnt so i bought the one for it but not sure where it hooks to?

Re: Kf82 carby hookup
I am pretty sure that we have the line from the crank case to the pump correctly hooked up. It is identified as 37 on the engine diagrams, it is the connection from 23 that i am trying to connect. The engine is running and at the moment with an open ended long hose from valve cover (23) positioned above the carby.
I had to replace the carby return spring but couldn't find the right place to connect it so i used a fairly long spring and connected it to a convenient location. |

Re: Kf82 carby hookup
just looked at the diagram. 37 is the correct pulse line for the fuel pump. on the valve cover your talking about mine also has a free hanging hose i guess its a vent hose for the case it has a piece of hose about 12" coming out from there routed down the side of the motor and slash cut flush with the bottom of the belly pan. i assume its a vent line.

I really don't know much about KF82's, but, most all later Kawasaki engines/carbs have an overflow/vent tube on the carb that just runs to the ground. I think it's pretty much just for fire safety! |

Re: Kf82 carby hookup
This is true, all three of my KF82 carbs have the vent tube you describe.

Re: Kf82 carby hookup
The hose from the valve cover comes towards the passenger side, upthe side of the carb and into the back of the air cleaner housing, The other small hose on the carb closest to the air cleaner is a overflow in case the carb floods over, just hangs down by the engine dip stick area, this is the hose coming from the valve cover to the air cleaner housing

Re: Kf82 carby hookup
I'm not sure if my question should be on this post forgive me if I'm in the wrong section. What would be the reason for the crankcase breather blowing oil out of it? I recently rebuilt the engine, This is the first time I have been trying to started and I keep having issues
