Default Air intake?

Here is my problem. My cart will only run if I hold my hand over the intake of the air filter. Or should I say hand over the intake 80-90% of the time. Any ideas?

Kawasaki engines are really finicky about their fuel/air mixture ratio,
It's crucial that the air box, (with air filter) and intake tube are hooked up to the carburetor for it to run decently!

If it's all hooked up, I would look for cracks in the intake tube and then at the carburetor gaskets, and mounting bolts for tightness.

hope this helps!

OK I checked for air leaks and found none. One more thing is that if I spray carb. cleaner in the air intake it also runs. So If I hold my hand over the air filter intake it runs or if I spray carb cleaner in the air intake it runs, otherwise it dosen't run.

Not getting enough fuel? In both cases you are reducing the amount of air it is getting.

Yes, it seem to be getting fuel, but why?
When I step on the gas pedal I get gas coming out the fuel line, but when I hook it up to the carb, nothing. Everything seems to be tight.
Could there be some sort of clog in the carburetor? But why would it run with your hand over the air intake? I'm not sure where to start?

I am thinking there is something in the carb too. Reomove it, get a couple cans of carb cleaner and go crazy. Could be something as simple as a piece of sand plugging the something up.

Thanks for the advise, but before I go there let me say one more thing and ask one more question.
If I hook the breather vent line on the carb to the engine vent (the line that blows air into the air filter) it will also run.
Also if the carburetor is clogged, how/why is the gas getting to the engine?
Thanks again for the help. You guys are great

may not be enough fuel getting to the engine. just a restriction. id clean that carb really well, i usually use wd 40 or a penetrant. i dont like the residue left behind alot of those carb cleaner sprays leave.
