Club car carryall II governor question
First post from a newbie. Look forward to learning as much as possible, and contributing where I can.
We purchased a used 1999 (we think the year is correct) club car carryall II The cart runs in two speeds. Stop, and hold on for dear life. It tops out around 30-35 mph. When we press the accelerator enough to start it, it just takes off, so we are constantly taking our foot off the gas to get it to slow down. This is our first cart, and are not sure of what modifications the previous owner did. Is there some adjustment to the governor we can make so the cart will run at a slower speed? Any descriptions or pictures would be helpful. I will post pictures of the cart shortly to help. We intend to us a tow behind seed spreader and sprayer, so the slower cart speed is crucial. The engine is a Kawasaki FE290D-DS05 Last edited by onthefly; 10-12-2012 at 03:38 PM.. Reason: miss spelling |

Re: Club car carryall II governor question
Here are some pictures. The previous owner put the John Deere sceme on it. It is a Club Car Carry all.
DSCN0644.JPG dump bed.JPG engine from passenger side.JPG spring.JPG There appears to be a spring missing where the arrow is pointing. Any thoughts? Is that something that might control the governor? |

Re: Club car carryall II governor question
Welcome to BGW onthefly! you've got yourself a nice cart!
If it goes from stop to full bore, It's probably not a governor issue, Most likely the butterfly in the carburetor is either broken in half, or gone all together! (common problem) Try to look in the carb and see if the butterfly is in there, if it's not... You'll have to replace the carburetor! |

Re: Club car carryall II governor question
the arrowyou have pointing to is correct. people zip tie this spring to by pass the governor. other ways is to adjust the cable and other ways is to zip tie the governro arm at tthe trans shifter, wheickh you dont have in your picture. look at the spring you have a arrow pointed to and make sure it has a spring on it, no bailing wire, no zipties. if you need a picture i will get one from mine for you. as lockman said look at the barb. i only get 22-23 on mine. other thing to look and verify is the spark governor hooked up. its the black box at the frnt of the engine on the bottom. ussuslly the take the ground wire off, and tape it up out of the way. its the eyelet connector. its the box that only lets you engine run to around 3600 rpm. instead of running butt raped monkey speed!

Re: Club car carryall II governor question
Lockman,
Butterfly in the carb is in tact, so no issue there. Ckiguy, there is a spring at the end of the cable. It appears to only hold the end of the cable in place, however there seems to be a lot of slack in that end of the cable. I will check the spark governor next. I'll try to post some better pictures. On that note, how can I make my pictures larger on this post. Lockmans pics were great, and mine keep coming out too small. Thanks again for the help. |

Ckiguy,
Checked the ground wire, and seems to be ok. Adjusted the cable in the control box all the way out, and seems to have helped. control box.JPG Here is a better picture of the cable end spring. cable end spring.JPG I'm wondering if the cable itself is just streched too much and needs to be replaced. |

Re: Club car carryall II governor question
Ok heres the basic 3 same photos...i have not touch anything other then adding the zip tie for the road governor. Here you can see it is basicly how it came from cc. Prior to me having it, i know the cart was never touched. Why would a 72 year old farmer want to fly on a golf cart?

Re: Club car carryall II governor question
Ok something aint right here i looked tahe orig picks and saw you have the old style trans. There the shifter is vertical not horizonal. Get your serial number from under the dash and above the foot pedals. To verify its a 99. If not see if your engine has any tags on it. One will have a bar code on the fan shroud, and theres another on the top of the fan shroud with the kawsasaki epa mumbo jumbo on it. It should have a d.o.m on it. This will at least getus a date of manufacture on the engine. Unless for some reason the 290 engines had a differnt trans rear end then the 350 have. I have a 350 in mine, and notice the diffence in the trans....
