Winter Driving

So my cart is running now, I was just wondering about driving during the winter months. Is there anything I need to do to adapt it to the weather or should it run just as well in the cold that it does in warm weather? I live in NE Ohio and it can get pretty cold here. I have an '87 CC gas cart. I'm guessing if guys use these carts for hunting then I would think winter driving isn't a big deal and it should do fine. Eh?

It doesn't get real cold where I'm from but other than taking a little longer to warm up, it seems to run better with cold air coming into the motor.

Depending on what oil viscosity your using in your KF82, (SAE30 is standard, right?)
the only possible changes you'd need to do for winter driving is change the oil to 10W-30, the thinner viscosity will help with initial start up circulation.
and, try to stay on a beaten path, when you get into deeper snow, it's not easy to "rock it" out when you get stuck! (experience... )
Otherwise... winter driving is a heck of a lotta' fun!

I use my cart for hunting. I don't run it in real deep snow. As for oil I'm running 10w40 full synthetic. Now before anyone jumps down my throat about synthetic making the engine burn oil. I haven't had an issue. I did replace the valve seals when I had my head off. My cart starts way easier. Especially in the cold. And my oil stays cleaner longer.

10W-30 full synth for 5 years... I never has an issue either!

nothing better then testing a stock cart in 15+ inches of snow.......i try it every year and so far between my old E-Z go and my old C.C. both gas 295 engine vs kf82 engine same tires same everything.......e-z go is winning the deep race, so far 17 inches and had to use it to pull the C.C. out of trouble then had to get a sno mobile to pull them both out...............what a blast............................

Yep I'm using 10W-30 now so I should be in good shape. Sounds like fun! And I have no lift and pretty much stock tires so I may have to avoid deep snow until I lift and put larger tires on it next year.

Lockman what size lift and tires do you have on your cart in that snowy pic? I love the stance. Looks mean.

Agreed on the thinner oil. I usually start putting Stabil in the gas about now too.... just in case it doesn't get used much.
ATV tires help it get around in the mud & snow. Mine hasn't been stuck yet, even in 6" - 10" of snow, on the frozen lake, etc.
Start thinking of ways to make your cart useful in the winter weather..... A snow plow? A Zamboni? Hauling firewood? Full canvas & a heater?
Stick around. Lots of guys here come up with some interesting ideas in the winter.

In that pic, I had a 4" Z lift with 22" tires... I've since upped that, adding a Jake's 3" spindle lift, and 25's!

Did those 22s rub at all in the front? Looks to be close from the pic.
