Default Kill Circuit Problem 89 DS

My 89 DS had no spark, so I followed the troubleshooting steps in the service manual. I unplugged the kill wire at the coil, and the spark was back, which indicates a problem with the kill circuit. I checked all the components and grounds and can't find the problem. I messed up one of the micro switches when removing it for testing, so I replaced them all. The ignition switch is only a year old.

If my memory is correct, the last troubleshooting step is: If everything else checks out and you still have no spark, replace the CDI. From the diagram in the manual, it looks like the CDI and coil are one unit. Is that correct?

Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated, since the coil for this model is hard to find and the current price on ebay is $285.

Does your '89 have a rev limiter? I know the clockwise FE290 has a rev limiter on it.
I've had rev limiters mess up on outboard motors and it can be very frustrating.

Thanks for the reply. I think the rev limiter is incorporated into the ignition coil on this model.

Something I was wondering was, why can't us guys with '84-'89 carts just use the (much cheaper and easier to find) coil made for the '90-'91? It's the same motor. What gives?

I'm no expert, but I think the rev limiter is separate from the coil on the 90-91. I would think someone's figured out how to adapt the pre-90 wiring to use the
90-91 coil and rev limiter, but can't find any posts with the info.
