Default My First Cart, Lift Question

Picked this up the other day from a friend of mine. It's a 95 DS. It has been sitting for about a year and a half. Basically, he put tires and wheels and a home made lift on it and then parked it because he went in another direction for his racetrack pit vehicle. I paid $400 for it, figure the wheels and tires are worth that. I have ordered a tune up kit, carb and fuel pump. Once I get it running, I would like to replace the homemade lift with a real one. Will these 25 inch tires fit with a six inch lift? Also, which is better, Spindle or A-Arm. please explain the functional differences for me please.

You'll be cutting it really close putting 25" tires on with a 6" lift. I have the Allsports 6" double a-arm lift and I'll be running 22s. I think in the instructions they say you can run up to a 24" tire. But 22s are big enough for me. To me, the price difference between the spindle and the a-arm kits was small enough that I decided it would be worth it to just get a more durable lift, I hear the spindles can sometimes break. Those tires on your cart now already look pretty well stuffed, doesn't seem like a whole lotta room for suspension travel.

Here are some threads similar to what you just asked. The a-arm vs spindle lift discussion is probably one of the most talked about subjects here, from what I've seen.

I did the same thing, A-Arm over the spindle lift on 22's. Very easy to install and works great. The only thing to consider is that these lifts are made for stock carts/suspension direct bolt on. You may want to know how the home made lift with interfere with the new one. 25" may fit but loaded you will rub - maybe go with the 8" if you want to keep the tires and wheels the same. Either way, $400 was a great deal. I have seen many carts in worse condition go for much more.

Clubcar5 makes a good point, you might want to post some more pics here so we can look at your suspension, to see if the home made lift on your cart can be removed and the cart reverted to stock suspension, or else you may have a rough time with the new lift install.

Thanks for all the info. I'll try to get some pics of the lift this weekend when it's light enough. I really appreciate the help and advice

Did the tune up and got it running. Tires rub pretty bad. Looks like the Home made lift is welded in the rear. I guess Ill get some smaller tires (22's?) instead of a lift. Thanks for the advice.

You'll have to figure out how much lift your homemade lift has in order to accurately choose the tires. On the rear of your cart, are the leaf springs above the axle or below it? I can possibly get some measurements from mine and you can compare.
