It's capable of 40 mph because of a v-twin big block and other mods. |

Thanks,
but if I got an ATV it would probably go about 70 MPH. If I got a dune buggy, it would probably go 51 - I had one in mind. So instead I'm getting a golf cart to fix up; though I only wanted to have to install simpler things. Now are ski engines and golf cart engines built almost the same? Or will I have to learn them both? OR should (before I get a buggy) I look at small go-kart engines? |

if you search the web you an often find carts that have already had an engine swap done. golf carts do NOT handle like an ATV or go-cart at fast speeds. 50mph in a cart is just asking for trouble unless you invest in some good safety gear starting with a roll cage and seat belts.
Most ATVs won't do 70mph unless you invest in a high-end (high-dollar) sport quad. The average about 40-55mph top end and have a MUCH lower center of gravity than a golf cart. fish |

Yeah,im gonna get an 8" lift and big wheels. And some seat belts. Some of the real sport ATVs that cost over $10000 go 70. I know that an ATV handles speed very good and even
some of those crazy dune buggies. But I think if I dont let anyone else drive it, I can handle it. The main thing though IMO is that golf carts dont have good suspension. But Im not gunna be driving on any rough terrain anyway. And where do I find to buy one with an engine swap done? |

Whats gunna happen on a straight dirt/rock path wearing seat belts going 50? I know the whole path and every step of it. I know where the big bumps are and where a chunk of wood is half sticking out of the ground. I'm not gonna flip the buggy and if I do it would be almost as safe as a go-kart. But how would I flip it? It would be like flipping an ATV. It should be safe with big wheels and safety accessories including a roll bar and seat belts. Well and bucket seats would be slightly better than flat ones.

Shooter, How old are you? What is your age?
Lots of things can happen. I have personally experianced a rear end exploding at 50+ MPH in a cart. It wasn't fun either. As far as a roll bar, there is a reason no one sells a roll cage. No one wants liability because one can't be built well enough. You have to start with the frame....theres not much frame in a cart. |
