Default Thinking about a gasser...

We have a little 5 acre farm and I am thinking about getting a gas cart to use as a utility vehicle around the property. I know that an electric carts towing capacity is around 700 pounds, but are the gas carts the same, or more/less?
The max I would tow would be around 400 pounds.
I would probably put a cargo box on the back as well.
Also, what would a typical stock 10-15 year old gasser go for that is in good running order?
Thanks for any input...

Most of the running CC gassers around here in the 10-15 year range go for between $1800-$2200.

Ok, there is a 96 on my local craigslist for 1800 obo.
They say it runs great and is all stock with a back seat.
Appears to be in good condition...

Sounds OK, that price would be about right around here. Not a screaming deal unless it's spotless, but hey, an included back seat is good. A new backseat costs $250-$300. Not sure what Missouri prices are, I'm guessing they're similar to OH.

Well, here are some pictures. I wouldn't say its spotless, but the engine compartment appears to be pretty clean. I noticed it has the Kawasaki FE290D engine. Is this a good engine, and does Club Car still use Kawasaki's in their carts today?
I could probably talk them down a few hundred bucks...

Looks like a nice cart!
Club Car has been using OHV Kawasaki FE engines from 92 to the present.
Here's the thing though... Yep, you could take the back seat off and put on a cargo box for your farm,
but, you may be able to find another cart for 3 to $400 cheaper without a rear seat!

Just a thought!

Ok, so they Kawasaki's must be good engines.
I will probably take my compression tester when I go look at it.
What should the compression be? Around 150?

For a 96, probably around 140 psi if its in good shape!
1996 is an unusual year for gas Club Cars, they changed a bunch of stuff mid-year,
Mostly the transaxle and the engine rotation
counterclockwise (early 96) to clockwise (late 96) looking at the drive clutch while it's turning over to start.

Either are fine as long as you aren't planing on putting a big block in it!

Yeah I plan on keeping it stock. What is the towing capacity of these gas carts?
All I have ever owned is electric, and I know they can pull their weight which is around 700 lbs... But I am not sure about the gas ones.
Thanks for all the help guys.
