Question about how gas carts work
I know that when a gas cart is sitting there, it is not running.
So does the engine restart every single time you push the accelerator? It seems like that is a lot of off and on for the starter and components. Why don't we design our cars like this? Would save a lot of gas... |

Re: Question about how gas carts work
Do the Kawasaki engines have an auto choke or something?
You would think that it wouldnt start on a dime every time you push the pedal. |

Re: Question about how gas carts work
The Porshe Panamara has the same start stop as golf cart. Problem is on hot or cold days when not moving you have no air. Gas golf carts don't have a starter in the normal sense. When they hit the gas peddle a solinoid is activated and pushes current to the generator which when given voltage turns and starts the engine. Once the engine spins fast then the voltage/amps provided it back charges the battery. When you lift off the throttle the connection is broke and all the engine electronics shut off. Killing the engine. Some people convert their carts to start with the key and stay running. To each their own.

Re: Question about how gas carts work
my 1985 gas ezgo has lasted a long time..so long it has grooves in the drive clutch..but the inside of clutch looks new for 27 yrs old..i feel the 2 stroke i took out was original and still ran great, and the starter generator looks original and never let me down..
but now i have a engine that starts like your car with the key and i love it.. |

Re: Question about how gas carts work
My 2003 club car starts great, never had to use the choke. The problem is, the battery runs down. Do these carts have a generator to keep the battery up?

Re: Question about how gas carts work
Yes, the starter generator is used to start the motor but once the motor is running, it's generates a small voltage to charge the battery. If your running radio, lights, etc. you may want to charge the battery every so often to keep it topped off.
