Default fe290 ring end gap?

Can anyone tell me what the gap in the rings should be on the fe290 engine? Also I don't see any markings on the rings for which way is up. How critical is it that the be installed the proper way?
In the manual I have all it shows is the maximum gap or service limits.

just put your top ring in the cylinders bore and measure what your gap is now with a feeler gauge..
then make sure your under the max..you can also buy oversized rings to gap them yourself if wanted

Right now the gap is .016 on the top ring and .020 on the second ring. Is this about right? I just don't want them to tight.

i cant say..if thats in the range of the specs you listed then there fine..if you were building a tight motor to race or for most ower you can get, most folks would shoot for the minimum clearance and want them tight..im that kinda guy on chevys
rings are pretty cheap also as i couldnt hardly ever take a motor down w/out planning to change the rings also..not that anything is wrong with your rings.if there rather fresh and not been in there long then id prob put them back also..
you no about how to line the ring gap up on them all before installing?
no seams "gaps"on the sides where the pin goes thru and each ring gap should face 160 or 180 degrees from the next ring gap below each ring iirc

So you're saying sassy that one gap should face one side of the wrist pin and the other rings gap should face the other side? I'm gonna be doing a Fe290 top end on my brother in laws cart when the new parts get here. Parts should be here today or tomorrow.

When I took the piston out the ring gaps were less that 20 degrees apart. And both compression rings are the same right? Thanks man.

i learned rings should "not" be to where the ring gaps are in line with either side of the wrist pin..i actually just read this again in my honda gx manuel and learned that way on chevys also...i dont see it really hurting but thats what i read 2 night ago again..
this should sound better,,maybe..
some rings are different as in this is how mine are.
thin oil ring on bottom
then the coragated oil ring
then another thin ring,,all these 3 in the same ring groove..
then the middle ring, then the top ring..top ring should have a slight chamfer on it and it goes up iirc..also some rings wont let you install the wrong one for the compresion ring"the top ring" but some the top 2 rings look the same, thats why you should read a manuel and use a magnified glass to see if one of the 2 top rings have a slight chamfer"angle" on one edge..

before install top ring gap points at one side of the piston, then the second ring almost complete opposite, and then the next top oil ring complete opposite of the one above it..same on the corragated ring and the next one on the bottom..basically never have the rings lined up and most furtherest apart from the next gap as poss..wheew..
you guys better look at the darn manuel to cover me ive learned most things the hard way yrs ago,,and shizzit still happens lol

when you get the new rings one should have a shiny edge and one will have a black edge the shiny one is the top ring. This is the only manual I could find and it is not that great but maybe it will help you with some info.
