Cart Running Rich
I have a 04 turf 2. It keeps fowling plugs to the point it wont start. Club car dealer told me there is no re-build kits just replacements. I tried adjusting but not sure if im missing something the choke is not on and air intake is not blocked. any ideas?

Re: Cart Running Rich
I'll throw some out there and I apologize in advance if they are basic, as I am unfamiliar with your knowledge level:
Does the intake hose restrict, or collapse when starting or running? Check bottom of intake hose, near carb, for holes. Have you tried the air/fuel mix adjustment? Correct spark plug for engine? (NGK BPR5ES) Does it backfire thru muffler or pop thru carb? Is the hi jet and fuel tank vent hose clear of debris? |

Re: Cart Running Rich
Interesting... Mine occasionally will backfire through muffler and smells after a run a little rich. Why the question about backfire ??

Re: Cart Running Rich
Thanks for the input Jeff. Well I Went Through your list and even replaced the intake hose. removed the carb and cleaned out everything. the hi speed jet looked good. I replaced the plug again with a new one and it is the right plug. and adjusted the carb. this is where I lack knowlage hi speed adjustment what is the proper procedure? Also it doesn't pop throught the carb or muffler. fuel tank is venting fine and filters are clean and new. I'm a car tech transfered to a golf course tech. getting to know these fine machines over the past 8 months, but I still get stuck sometimes.

Re: Cart Running Rich
Backfire question is a possible indicator of a carbon loaded muffler that will choke the exhaust enough and make it run rich by not allowing enough exhaust gas out.

Re: Cart Running Rich
I called it a high speed jet, but it's actually called a pilot jet. It's brass and is external, facing up. It's just above the fuel inlet hose barb.It isn't adjustable. The adjustable air/fuel jet is called a pilot air screw in the book. It's on the same side at the rear of the carb. You can rotate it lean or rich. Play with that.

Re: Cart Running Rich
Just wondering, Capt. Is the vehicle original to your location? Is it remotely possible that you are in an area with a higher altitude and need a smaller main jet? Or perhaps someone before you changed it to a larger jet? I realize this is a long shot, but just thought I'd check.

Re: Cart Running Rich
The cart was purched by us. We have 14 club cars from 97 to 2013 and we are right at sea level. I played with the Air/fuel mixture screw and I think I leaned it out. seems to be running better. The boys are using it today so we will see how it go's. One more thing, what makes it leaner clockwise or counter clockwise? Thanks again Jeff you have helped me a lot!

Re: Cart Running Rich
Us turf equipment technicians, or golf mechanics, need to help each other out. I almost always see the pilot screw adjusted in the middle position. I believe turning it clockwise leans it out and ccw makes it richer. I can't tell you how many times I have referred to my service manual for testing procedures. If you don't have one, get one from your Clubcar distributor. It's great for testing solenoids and starter/generators. It gives you test procedures and specs. And welcome to BGW! I enjoy helping and being helped on here.
