Default Mounting Auxiliary Battery...

Ok, started this last summer but never ended up finishing it. I have an auxiliary battery that I'm going to use to run my lights and audio. Reason being that I plan to use the cart to provide the tunes while we hang out at the gravel pit and don't want to run the main battery down and risk killing it and being stranded.

Because of the way my cart is used I am going to keep the auxiliary battery in the engine compartment. Did some research and found a battery that fit's my needs and is small enough to allow me to mount it in the engine bay.

My first choice for location is along the frame rail between the F-N-R switch and the gas tank (see the first few pictures below). I have a battery tray built and am ready to mount it I'm just nervous about putting a battery that close to the fuel system. It has to be that close to clear the F-N-R mechanism but I keep thinking of the possibility of a spark...and gas...and boom.... It would be possible to relocate the fuel pump but is it worth it...

Please either talk me into it and tell me it's ok or talk me out of it!!! I need other opinions.

My backup plan is to mount it right to the top of the black box which will also be easy but will put a good bit of extra weight on that box. May have to brace the box a bit to keep it in place so it doens't break away.

EDIT: in the pictures of the battery by the pump, I would spin the battery around so the terminal would be up by the body not right next to the fuel pump. Didn't realize that when taking the pic's last night. Also, the battery tray is not in the pictures. for purpose of quick pictures I just set the battery where it would be mounted.

Default Re: Mounting Auxiliary Battery...

I would mount it beside the gas tank. Looks like plenty of space, but if you want to be sure just put a rubber boot or piece of plastic on the wire or beside the fuel pump. No worries.

Also, fumes are in that compartment now, along with an engine spitting fire and heating the whole place up as well as all the electrical bits in there. And you haven't blown up yet...
