Default Front Wheel Bearing and Front Wheel Oil Seal Replacement- 1999 Club Car Carryall

Hello,

I have all the parts for my 1999 Gas Club Car Carryall.... a new hub assembly with bearing cups pre-installed, 2 sets of wheel bearings, and a front wheel oil seal.

Do I simply grease each bearing set and then reinsert? For the inner bearing set what needs to be done with the oil seal? After the bearing set is placed do I just tap the oil seal until its flush with the brim of the inner part of the hub assembly? Or is there a special way the actual rubber part of the seal has to sit against/in/on the bearing?

I haven't found anything to descriptive on how to do this?

How much grease is too much and what is needed with grease overall.?

I pretty much need install instruction for dummies on this one because I don't wanna make things worse.

Thanks:-)

Welcome to BGW frank!

First, the wheel bearings:
You have to "pack" the bearings with wheel bearing grease! (provided that they're needle bearings, and not sealed bearings!)

Here's a video of how I've been doing it for years!:

Next is the Grease seal:
After the inside bearing has been packed with grease, lightly coat the cup/race (pre-installed in the hub) with grease,
set the bearing in the inside cup and add just a little more grease.
(Do not fill the whole inside of the hub with grease, it's not necessary, and it will just make a mess!)

The cupped part of the grease seal goes into the hub first, and the rubber seal is on the outside,
and lightly tap around the whole seal until it's completely seated in the hub, then wipe off any extra grease from the seal and hub.

You should now be ready to install the hub and the grease packed outer bearing on the spindle!

Hope this helps!

Awesome...thanks! Just a couple follow-up questions:

1) So there is no special way the rubber portion of the grease seal sits/touches the actual bearing? Just tap it in flush with the outer brim of the hub and good to go right?

2)Comment and question... The bearing set I have came with a cone (with bearings inside) and a metal ring (looks like a big thin wedding band)..is this the race and is it just extra? When I took apart my hub the inner portion bearing set was completely shredded and I did not see this ring.

My guess its an extra race because the hub came with one pre-installed..is this accurate?

I think I am all set as far as the out bearing...just grease it, set in place, pop the washer back on and the castle nut, and then codder pin....

Thanks again:-)

1) No, the seal should not touch the bearing, and in some cases the seal may seat a little bit further then just "flush" with the hub! (Hence... completely seated)

2) Yes, it sounds like an extra race! IF the new hub has race(s) already installed, you can toss the one that came with the bearings!

One note on the races... check to see if the races on the hub are the same as the races that came with the bearings!
If the new bearings sit in the hub races like they do in the races that came with the bearings, you should be good to go...
If not, you may have to replace the races in the hub with the ones that came with the bearings.

I say this only because I don't know where you bought your parts from... if it was from a CC dealer, you should be good to go!
