Sound Deadener or Dynamat?
My buddy just bought a 1987 Club Car gas just like mine. When we went to test drive it, I noticed right away that it was much quieter than my cart. His cart has the old pre-1993 fiberglass body (mine has the newer plastic body) and when I lifted the seat I noticed that the inside of the body shell was covered with sound-deadener foam. It looked like it was stock because it seemed to be cut very well around the shifter, etc.
I now want to put some kind of sound deadener around the inside of my cart body. Has anyone ever done this and did it make a difference? Reason I ask is because I know the fiberglass body shells are thicker and more rigid than the plastic bodies and I wonder if part of the reason his cart was quiet may be partially attributed to that. |

goto lowes and get peel and seal in the roofing department. its a fraction of the cost and is the same thing as you are wanting. its 6-8 inches wide and 50 feet long roll.

Re: Sound Deadener or Dynamat?
But is it flame-proof? Since this will be in the engine bay, I don't want any fire hazards...

It has a aluminum face just like dynamat so it should be.

Re: Sound Deadener or Dynamat?
If you can find what TTC is talking about online, you may be able to look at the warnings which should include flammable warnings. I know when I used to do competition audio, we used sound deadening material under the hood of the vehicles but I can't remember the exact name of it.

Re: Sound Deadener or Dynamat?
As it turns out, we sell Dynamat at my work, so I get it at half-price. Just bought 2 rolls of it! I'll post pics when I get into the application.

Re: Sound Deadener or Dynamat?
Here's how far two rolls of dynamat got me. I put the body back on but after adding the dynamat it really doesn't sound much quieter. I'm thinking that a lot of the sound is probably escaping through the bottom of the cart, and since my cart is lifted, it's probably louder than a stock height cart. Oh well, at least it looks good!

Re: Sound Deadener or Dynamat?
The thing I learned about Dynamat a long time ago, is you have to cover all the surfaces to get the most out of it. In my case the rattle or vibration would be cured in one area but would start in another area that wasn't covered. But i'm sure you're right, that sound has to go somewhere and with your body being lifted it's easier for the sound to flow from underneath.
