Default Start/Run Problem 93 Club Car

First post on this forum.

Recently got a 93 gas Club Car from our neighbour. Strange problem (to me at least) with it, that I knew of before I bought it.

It seems to have a mind of it's own when it come to starting and running.... Turns over like a son of a gun, no problem there, but when trying to start it, it seems to only fire once then just crank and crank..... Pulled the spark plug and sure enough, it seems to just spark once then not again no matter how long it turns over. Doesn't seem to mater if in forward or reverse.

Try off and on all day to get it to start, then suddenly for no reason at all it'll start and run fine for the rest of the day. Usually you have the same problem the next day.

Can't see it being the coil, I'd think that it'd be either good or bad??

Anyone seen this before that can help? Any suggestions greatly accepted...

TIA,
Rick

PS... Is the wiring etc the same on the 93 as it is on a 94? I have the manual for the 94.

Welcome to the forum!
You've come to the right place...
It could be the coil, but first I would try a new spark plug.

Thanks and will do.

Do you think a coil would be that intermittent tho? I thought that they should work or not, was wondering about the rpm limiter? Would a igniter be off and on do you think?

Thanks,
R..

Coils can and do fail intermittently.

Shoot, I was afraid of that! I don't suppose there is any simple, reliable test of them either that doesn't involve the removal of the flywheel?

Coils usually fail due to heat which breaks them down over time, which is why they can bench test great, but when put back into the warm confines of the engine compartment they may continue to intermittently fail. Eventually the coil will fail altogether. Just check everything else and if it's the coil...you'll arrive at that conclusion through the process of elimination.

With this cart, it seems to occur more when the engine is cold, like the first start of the day.

Wanted to get out this past weekend and try a few things, but never had a chance.

The poster below suggested the ignitor; that's a possibility for sure. Again would one likely be intermittent?

I've got the same situation with a Yamaha G9. Starter/generator turns over for awhile with no spark then al of a sudden the engine roars on and the cart runs great. Put a new coil in still the same problem so, now I'm thinking igniter. Wish I new how to check it!

Well, it ended up being the Rev Limiter that was causing the problem. Removed the brown ground wire I read about on the forum and runs great now.

Thanks to those of you that took time out of your busy schedules to try and help!
