Default torque spring advice

I'm starting to put a clone engine in my club car. Was wondering if anyone has put a torque spring in for better take off. I know it want add any speed to the cart but by adding this spring will it take any speed away. Recken what I'm saying is if I max out at 20mph in 300 feet on flat ground. If I install the spring can I still max out at 20mph but in a shorter distance on flat ground.
