I don't know if they're "the best", but when I was considering just having someone rebuild my FE400 engine the only place that was recommended by a couple of places was J&M Golf Carts - called down there and it was like $550 plus shipping to rebuild one. Plus the guy on the phone told me they sell brand new FE400 engines for $1450 if mine was trashed too bad...

Why not go with a clone like Vegas Carts offers? Tons of power for less than the rebuild you were quoted? That's my plan if I need to rebuild or get bored with my FE.
