Default Starter Genrator not always cranking through

So I have run into a strange problem,
96 Gas Club Car,
When trying to start, most times no issue, however, once in a while the starter tries to turn but sits there and hums, if I take my foot off the pedal and try again it usually will spin through, once in a while it takes two tries.
This happens in regular or maintenance mode.
Seems maybe it does not have enough to spin through a compression stroke,

Battery has been load tested, no problems there, Seems to be charging fine when running.
Runs fine no issues

Looking for suggestions,

Sounds like maybe your brushes are going bad. I'm not certain but some gurus will step in.

I agree, sounds like bad brushes to me. I have changed mine several times. Mine usually has the same symptoms as you are describing when they are hanging up or are worn out.

My friend has a similar issue with his 96 CC. Is the solution to replace brushes? How about it BLONG? Did you try it, or was your problem solved another way. Al

Could be the brushes,or the armature has a dead-spot.If the brushes look ok,have the unit tested at a Starter Rebuilder.Hope this helps.

I was having same issue and I replaced my grounds on the cart and also the ground that attatches 2 the underside of the body I pulled that 1 off the starter tightened up the nut on the starter and put new ground on and it fixed some of the issues you guys are explaining.Mine was doing the same thing and my brushes were replaced last year.
