Default Need primary clutch rebuilding help

So I picked up a new project, a 95 DS gasser. The drive clutch for some reason would not allow the belt to ride more than halfway up causing the cart to only go about 8 mph. So I've pulled the clutch off, removed the outer cover with a steering wheel puller and found a bunch of dirt/crap in side. I had already bought a weight kit for the clutch, nut also found that I need an idler bearing, the button kit and a couple of these teflon washer type thingys. Plus I was gonna replace the spring inside.
It looks like after I replace all these parts I mind as well just buy a new clutch. Usually I buy everything on ebay, but they're only listing 97 and up. BU lists a clutch that's 88 and up. We are talking a big differance in price.
WHO CAN HELP ME FIND TGE BEST DEAL? Buggies was $224

I had the same problem, the only big difference between the 97 and up 96 and older clutch are the size of the pulleys, i installed old pulley from my 92 clutch and install on the new clutch ,and reversed the side of the clips under the button on the inside of the clutch, been working great for several years

The drive belt will not go all the way to the top of the clutch sheaves, even when the drive clutch is working correctly. Are you sure the cart is not just governed way down?

I'm running the $224 BU drive clutch on my '87 (1987 was a crossover year for the clutch redesign, but most retailers just say 1988-up to avoid confusion). Unless you find someone locally or on here selling one used, that's about what you should expect to pay.

that is very possible I definitely needed the idler bearing no matter what so I'm just going to get that and replace it along with the weight kit I bought. once I get my torque spring for the driven clutch, I'll install that and put everything back together. I'll definitely recheck the governor adjustment. This is going to be a full blown project so late maybe a while. Thanks very much for your help.

Now that was what I was hoping to hear. Since I can buy a 97+ clutch for $179 shipped. Thanks so much!
I did the same thing with the bottons too.

Hm. I knew about the pulleys but didn't think the clutches could be used since the '97-up carts have clockwise motors. Let us know if the newer clutch works out with the button modification.

here are pic's of the clutches, the only thing difference I could fined is the clip under the buttons are on the opposite side, and the size of the drive belt pulley, when you order the weights and bottons FITS ALL 1988-UP DS AND PRECEDENT CLUTCHES. So all I did swap out the pulley and install the clips on the other side

What's everybody using for belts? I've seen these "severe duty" belts for $64 or stock belts for $22. Are the s/d belts worth the triple cost?
