Default high engine blow by/runs better when breather hose is plugged

hello, i have a 1996 club car ds. its lifted 6 inches with 10-12-22 tires it has always been a little sluggish but i assumed it was due to the added load from the extra weight and bigger tires. But lately i have been tinkering and i noticed that it seems to have a lot of oil and blow by out of the dipstick tube. also when i pull the intake pipe off i noticed some fuel back feeding out of the carburetor. while the engine was idling in maintenance mode i pinched off the crankcase breather and the engine seemed to smooth out and less crankcase noise. does any one know if this is normal?
note: the engine seems to bog out if you punch the throttle. it only has power at about half throttle until you get moving

If the engine otherwise sounds normal you might have a stuck ring(s). On the bad end the piston could be damaged. Do a compression check. Anf if you have access to a leak down tester. That would help. From the sounds of it you will find low comression. The top end will need repair. One last ditch trick that just might help. Try pulling the spark plug and poring in some Seafoam or GM or Ford Top engine cleaner. Let this soak for awhile. It might take a couple of tries if it's gonna work. If you have the time. It might be wortha try with the cleaners. But I will say the odds are low the soak will work. Good luck hope this helps.

i did a compression test this morning and was surprised to find 140 lbs of compression. i do not have a leak down tester but with that much compression i would be surprised to find and major leaks.

140psi comression is good. Try the soak method. I know it is a long shot but it beats the hell out of tearing the engine down. A stuck ring will cause the troubles like youre haveing. Sometimes you can get them to free up As long as the piston has no damage you should be good to go. With the 140 psi compresion I would say the piston should be in good shape.

Soak meathed? You mean pour some sea foam or oil in the cylinder? And how long should I let it sit? Over night?and on another note I checked the carb over and it all seams to be very clean so I don't think fuel is an issue. Air filter is clean. The only thing. did notice is that the primary clutch seems to act like its stuck until you juice the throttle then it snaps closed. It is a stock spring for now. So maybe this all stemming from a clutch issue.

Hang on!!!

Pulling the dipstick while the engine is cranking/running, there will be blow-by! it's crankcase pressure... it's totally normal!
and removing the intake tube from the carb and seeing fuel while cranking or running the engine is also completely normal!

New engines come out with 156 psi compression. so, 140 is not completely out of the norm!

Have you replaced your spark plug lately?

Yes, I did Change the spark plug. And I know that some crankcase pressure is OK I was just wondering if there was an exseptable level or not. The plug is a NGK bp 5 es why does it seem to smooth out when the crank case breather is plugged?

RE the soak method. Yes pull the plug and pour a little sea foam or like in and let it soak. As far as soak time . Do over night if you can.

OK so my other question is about fuel pressure... if I were to put a tee and a pressure gauge on the supply to the carb what kind of pressure should I see? Or is there. better way to test the fuel pressure?because I'm thinking that plugging the breather hose is giving a stronger pulse to the fuel pump and thus giving better fuel pressure. Maybe I'm over thinking this but it seems to make sense to me.

Lockman has a very good point. As far as fuel pressure. I do not have an answer for that. However your fuel burn is a low rate. When I pulled the fuel hose off the card on mine and cranked it over I got fuel. It was a small amount per pulse. But a cart is only burning maybe 3-4 liters an hour. At that rate it only needs a little per pulse. Also if you do soak the engine. When you start it. DO SO IN AN OPEN SPACE. It will smoke like hell for a few min. Trus me I have that Tee Shirt.
