Default Starter question

Hey guys. I got an eight passenger club car in the shop that spits out the carb. I popped off the carb to look in the head and the valve was opening/closing exactly opposite of what it should be. My first assumption was timing was off. But I find it odd that it would be exactly off. I then noticed it has a brand new start motor in it. Does anyone know what way the starter should be turning? if looking at it, Clockwise or counter clockwise? Not sure if it matters but it is a key start cart. Like the key starts it. Any help would be great!!
Thanks!!
Cameron

Have you tested for spark?

The engine rotation will depend on the year of the cart!
(the first set of letters, and numbers on the serial tag will tell you the model and year)

Standing on the passenger side, looking at the clutches:
Pre-1996: Counter Clockwise
1997 to present: Clockwise

Thanks Lockman. Figured out that the people before me wired the starter backwards. swapped A1 and A2 and it fired right up!
Thanks for the advice!!
