need advice on starter generator
My s/g quite working, can these be rebuilt? I dont know what year the cart is but it did have the KF82 engine in it before being replaced with a Vegas clone. If so can I buy the parts and where or who rebuilds them? if not what is the best s/g to buy? And where is the best place to buy one? I would like one that has a high charging capacity since I have a stereo, lights, and a winch. Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: need advice on starter generator
What exactly is it doing? Will the cart run but not charge? Or is it completely dead? I went through a bunch of trouble with mine only to find out that it was the voltage regulator.

Re: need advice on starter generator
It wont do anything. I took the belt off to see if it would spin without the belt and it did nothing. I can get it to spin with my hand so its not froze up. Sometimes if I try to spin it the clockwise the opposite way it is supposed to turn it will make a noise and try to spin counter clockwise.

Re: need advice on starter generator
Have you tried putting power straight to it? If so, then I would suggest checking the brushes inside. It's a pretty easy procedure. There should be 4 rubber access points from the outside. Or you can take the whole thing apart, which is what I did letting you clean out everything. If your brushes are wore out, you can get them online for about 20 bucks. That's where I would start.

Re: need advice on starter generator
I agree, I myself have never replaced the brushes on an electric motor, but I believe its pretty easy to do.
Should be pretty easy to remove, I bet you could probably pull it out the access panel on the back of the cart. Wouldn't hurt to try if you plan on buying a new one anyway. Save some money and hey, may even fix it. Keep looking on BGW, tons of info and helpful people here. |

Re: need advice on starter generator
I just replaced the brushes about 6 months ago. I will look at them again. I have not tried running power directly to the s/g I'll try that and see what happens. Thanks for the responses.

Fixed it. I took the s/g apart and cleaned it with electric motor cleaner. Wire brushed all wire ends, put it back together and works great now.
