96' club car. Ive done everything and still no power!?
Ok so i have a club car ds and have had problems with it not climbing hills. So to start i changed the drive clutch weights and buttons and no change. I then cleaned the carb but it was spotless and still no change. I then checked the compression and noticed it was a little low and the motor would smoke when driving a little so i did a complete top end with a head rebuild .25 bored out and new piston and rings. Now it doesnt smoke anymore and the compression is high but still seems like no power. I even gave the carb another clean when i did the rebuild. I am lost now and looking for any input!

If you put a stiffer spring on the driven clutch that will help. [ rear spring]

Check the drive belt length and width.

Yes i was thinking about that bc i took the rear clutch off and cleaned it and it seemed to help but now i notice when i start to accelerate up hills the belt slides down into it before the cart even starts to move. Im thinking this is why im loosing torque. I also noticed that when i approach a hill the belt doesnt come back to the top of the clutch when it stops climbing the hill

Yes the ramps are there and in not too bad of shape. I didnt think they would make much of a difference bc i have a yamaha g2 and it has ramps missing and it runs great. The only reason i havnt fixed them is because i cant get it off!! Lol

IF your clutches have any wear in the faces where the belt rides pulling power will be effected. On your drive clutch, take a straight edge along the face. If you can fit a dime under it. it's worn badly. Woorn belt doesn't help either. They also make a torque spring for the drive clutch.

So it turns out the problem was the driven clutch. Apparently u can load the spring so the clutch ramps push on the opposite side and that was the problem

I would still send the driven clutch for machining and a new Heavy Duty spring to Tom at CartPartsPlus.com and also install a longer spring in the drive clutch. I did both of mine and it was money well spent....Great Hill climbing with high RPM's and Torque to get up the hills with no problem.
