00 Club Car speed adjustment
I just purchased a 2000 club car stretch golf cart with the fe350 kawasaki engine. I am having some trouble adjusting the governor when I got the cart it would barely do 5 mph. the guy I bought it from said all I had to do was adjust the cable that goes into a black box in the lower front of the engine I am thinking it is the spark rev limiter. I adjusted it and have more power but when I put the pedal all the way down the engine stops and backfires. I read where I could unhook the ground wire inside that box but I am not sure what to do. If anyone has any ideas on what I am doing wrong.

Re: 00 Club Car speed adjustment
I figured what the problem was I unhooked the ground to the rev limiter I didn't zip tie the governor the cart has plenty of speed for me. my question is will the cart run at a safe rpm with the ground disconnected and no adjustments to the governor?

Re: 00 Club Car speed adjustment
The 5 MPH top speed is strange to me. I would struggle to answer your question about safe RPM until I knew what your current RPM range IS. There are plenty of people here who can discuss an FE350 better than me, but I can tell you my experiences with my FE290:
When my cart came off the golf course, it had a top speed of 9 mph with the limiter and governor in-place. I disabled the governor and my speed went up to about 13 mph, but it would hit the limiter and cut-out, which means I was spinning her really fast to get that speed. I bought a tach to determine that the limiter kicks at about 4150 RPM. In hind-sight, I did that out of sequence. Installing the tach should've been the first thing I did. My problem was my drive clutch. It was only closing 2/3rds of the way. After having the drive clutch rebuilt, my cart is going about 22 mph before it hits the limiter. At golf course (governed) speed of 11 mph, the engine spins about 2,700. If your drive clutch is bringing the belt all the way to the top (outside edge) before the governor or limiter kicks in, chances are that your RPM's are fine. At the same time, I'll repeat that I wish I had installed a tach earlier than I did. |

Re: 00 Club Car speed adjustment
It's not the age of this thread that's the problem, it's the lack of content!
This "sticky" is a better place to start. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/gas-c...-club-car.html FWIW, I first used the zip-tie method, but later just loosened the nut on the governor arm. To this day my limiter is still functional. |
