Precedent Backfires with Zip Tie
I put a loose zip tie on my governor spring and it runs about 18 MPH. Now, after a couple weeks it will backfire after I stop for a stop sign and attempt to take off. I want to correct the issue before damage is caused! I have a 2010 Club Car Precedent, the rev limiter has NOT been touched (by me). Any help is greatly appreciated!

Re: Precedent Backfires with Zip Tie
Are you revving enough for the limiter to kick in?

Re: Precedent Backfires with Zip Tie
No, I hit the rev limiter around 28 MPH then I turned it back down to top out at 18.

Re: Precedent Backfires with Zip Tie
Sorry, I meant to say 21 MPH! Either way, I am thinking I should just take the zip-tie off and adjust the accelerator pedal to the desired top speed. Would this make sense or is there something else causing the backfire issue? Any insight?

Re: Precedent Backfires with Zip Tie
I took the zip tie off and adjusted the accelerator pedal tension to the desired speed. Removing the zip tie solved all the issues I was experiencing. Turns out, the zip tie causes interference which in turn leaves the throttle body (butterfly) open in some instances. For anyone experiencing this or a similar issue after installing a zip-tie, I suggest ditching the zip-tie and seeking additional speed by other means!

Re: Precedent Backfires with Zip Tie
Good update. I wonder if that applies to DS's as well? I originally had a zip-tie, but it kept breaking, so I loosened governor post instead. Mine doesn't backfire unless someone repeatedly bounces off the limiter (and then I bounce them out of the drivers seat).

Re: Precedent Backfires with Zip Tie
My wife often drives the cart and she doesn't even know what a rev limiter is let alone would she recognize the sound it makes!

Re: Precedent Backfires with Zip Tie
To adjust the accelerator pedal, lift the floor mat from the driver's side. Under the floor there is a plastic panel (approx. 12" wide) that cover's the "black box" which houses the cables for both the brake and accelerator. This is held in by one Christmas tree plug. Pull this off using the large diameter hole to grip. Locate the accelerator cable, loosen the 11 mm (or 7/16) jamb nuts and adjust the position increasing the amount of threads on the rearward end of the cable. Test using a speedometer app for android or iphone. Don't forget to tighten the jamb nuts once you have reached the desired speed.
