Engine alignment question
I'm preparing to install an engine snubber and I notice that the snubber support is not centered on the bracket beneath it. See photo.
Snubber area 002.jpg I don't recall looking at this before but since I just recently installed a rear lift kit I wonder if I somehow got the drive-line somehow a bit crooked. So my questions are: Is it normal for the snubber support to be off center and, if not, can I rely on a centered snubber bracket to indicate a squared up rear axle. and. if not, what's the best way to measure if the rear axle is misaligned? As always, thanks for your help. Bill |

Re: Engine alignment question
No... that isn't right, the snubber should be center!
I don't know what happened with your situation, every rear lift I put on... that never happened! |

Re: Engine alignment question
It happened to my big block cart the last time I was in a hurry when I pulled a leaf spring.
Lloosen the u bolts and center it up! That is about the best I can guess. I suppose that you could take some measurements from the rear axle to a point on the frame. but it is a golf cart, not a race car. i think if u center it on the bracket u will be fine Don, is there anything about this in the manual? |

Re: Engine alignment question
OK thanks guys, here's my plan. Loosen the U bolts, hopefully move it around to center the snubber bracket, clamp the bracket in the center position, retighten the U bolts, then disconnect the front spring bolts, release the clamp, move the engine back, install the snubber, and reassemble. That should work, right?

Re: Engine alignment question
No there isn't Aaron! I'm thinking U bolts also!
Bill, You shouldn't have to disconnect the front spring bolts and move the engine back to install the snubber, Once you get the snubber bracket centered, put a jack stand under the engine pan, jack it up so the bracket is off of the bottom stop (frame) about 1/2", and simply remove the snubber bracket with the 2 bolts holding it on, install the snubber on the bracket, and reinstall the snubber/bracket on the engine pan! |

Re: Engine alignment question
Thanks for that Lockman1. Your suggestion is exactly what I was in initially planning to do but when I checked the shop manual it said to remove the front spring bolts. I will definitely try your suggestion first.

Re: Engine alignment question
Thanks for everyone's help. As I was loosening the U bolts I remembered that the alignment bolts supplied by Jakes were just a bit looser in the hole than I expected, but no big deal, I was able to realign the drive train to center the snubber bracket, tighetn the U bolts, jack up the front of the engine a bit, remove the bracket, slide on the snubber, reinstall the bracket/snubber, lower the jack and life is good.
It's amazing how much quieter the engine is with the snubber in place. Thanks again guys. Bill |
