Default Club car (bobcat 2100) and a question...

Hey all, so I used to come here for awesome tips and advice when I had my old carryall 2. That was replaced a year ago with a bobcat 2100 Utv (photo attached)... Love it. FE400 and 4 wheel brakes, electric dump bed.
My real question is, however, about the old four wheeler in the pic to the right of my new buggy. It sat for a while because it does not have spark. It is a 1997 Yamaha timberwolf. I hooked it up to the golf cart with jumper cables to crank it, since it has a completely shot original battery... but with the plug out and touching the block, I see no spark. I am told the stator coil is "never" the problem... And I took apart all of the wiring plugs and checked connections, kill switch, put a new spark plug in, etc.... What do I do to diagnose this old beast?
Sorry for the off topic request, but I figured I would at least offer a picture!!!

Help??? No spark!

There's usually only 1 or 2 fuses on a 4 wheeler. I'd be checking the coil - no spark usually leads me to that troubleshooting step pretty quickly every time.

Pretty sure you need some voltage for the cdi to work.....

If I get a multimeter, what would I be looking for and where?

Too much reading for me. It appears to be a pretty common problem, I did a google search and it returned a bunch of results,

Ugggh..... That's the problem. When I started reading that others were replacing the stator at 300 bucks, and CDI and coil at another 100... I am just assuming the thing is totaled, since it's not even worth that much. Sad... I learned on that baby in the late 90's and wanted it for putting around with my 3 year old...
