Gas golf cart stereo

I have a customer with a gas precedent with a stereo, 12v amp etc. When at rest the stereo works fine but when he gives it gas the stereo cuts off, when he lets off the gas it comes back on again.

I am not familiar with the gas carts or how they work at all, anyone have an amplifier hooked to a gas cart with no problems? I initially thought it was an undervoltage issue from the initial startup but it does it even when the engine is accelerating until he lets off the gas.

This is a regular 12v car amplifier, is there something about the gas cart that is different then a car that could cause this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

is it wired with ground to frame ? try a ground to the battery from amp

I confirmed it is grounded to the battery. Is there anything different about a gas golf cart then a car that could cause the amp to cut out?

Does anyone else have a gas cart with an amplifier that works with no problems?

Where is the power lead coming from then?? Not the battery. Sounds like its wired into the starter or something

Keep in mind that gas precedents have a voltage regulator. It sounds like you're connecting to the battery directly. The starter/generator fluctuates the voltage; usually ok with lights, but probably causing issues with your higher draw amplifier.

Some one else was asking about this same issue recently, I think the general concensus was the size of the wiring going to stereo was too small

With a voltmeter on the battery the voltage is varying from 12.5 to 18 volts when the gas pedal is full throttle.

It doesn't seem like this would be normal operation but I don't know enough about the gas carts to know. Could it be the voltage regulator isn't working?

crap 18 volts??? from my memory that is way too high! its only a 12 volt system. something like 15 volts max at high rpm comes to mind. the amp could be shutting down do to high voltage, not low. i would suspect the voltage regulator

Thanks, that is what I was thinking. Seems like putting 18 volts to your battery would be very bad for it and eventually cook it.
