Default problems with 1998 ds

Hi guys, I picked up used 1998 club car ds. The person I got it from was having a problem lest year where the oil spilled out from the fill tube and when they drained the oil they noticed fuel in it. So they took the whole top end of it off and left it like that over winter. I inspected everything and looked ok so I replaced the head gasket cleaned out the carb and reassemble it. It seems it runs ok but at full speed the oil light goes on and when I release the accelerator it goes away. It has oversize tires and lift kit on it, would that make the rpms to go to high causing the oil not to get back to the crankcase? I’m running the cheapest Wal-Mart brand 5w30 oil in it. Any ideas on what I can do so the oil light does not go on. Thank you for any help.

On my '87, when I put the lift on, the rear of the motor was lowered with the axle, while the front of the motor stayed at the height of the body. In order for the oil level to be right I had to lower the front part of the engine cradle down 2" to level it out. I don't know if the oil light on your motor is just a level sensor or a pressure sensor. On my '87 the oil light is simply a level sensor, if the oil level drops below the sensor inside the crankcase, the light comes on. I'm mainly familiar with the older motors like mine (1984-1991). Maybe someone else knows if the oil lights on the newer motors work the same way. But even guys with the newer motors like yours have gone through the trouble to lower the front of the motor.

If you say the light comes on when you hit the gas, maybe your oil level is off because of the lift and is lower than it should be, and close to the sensor, so that when you hit the gas and cycle oil through the motor, it's enough to expose the that sensor and trigger the light. But don't over fill it, that comes with it's own set of problems you don't want.

Here's a pic of what one of our guys (Lockman) did. Just cut the bracket and added an extension plate to lower it.

how would i know if its level, can I check by putting a level on it somehow, or if it looks straight?

That I'm not sure. My motor, even lowered 2" in front isn't 100% level if you were to put a bubble level on it at the bottom. It's still a bit high in the front. But I didn't check it before the lift, so it may still be high in front even in stock configuration. The reason I know it's OK now is because I know how much oil is supposed to go into the motor according to Club Car, and when I add that amount, it reads well into in the safe zone on the dipstick.

The easiest way to tell if the engine pan is on a strong angle or not
is by simply looking at the snubber, (the orange bumper in my/springboks pic)
if it's sitting flat on the I-beam, you should be good!

I wouldn't worry too much about the engine pan angle just yet...
Try changing the oil to synthetic 10w-30 first!

I changed the oil to 10w30 can't run it because of rain. I will try first thing if it lets off. But the pan is definitely not sitting straight. It's about 15% incline.image.jpg
