oil injection removal
I'm thinking about removing the oil tank an injection. Any comments good or bad. The cart is used allot at the lake and short road trips with bogs to cool them down. Would like to know the ratio oil gas mix.

Re: oil injection removal
I use 1.5 oz. of Walmart's 2 cycle oil to 1 gallon of gas. I buy it by the gallon and have tried many others and Walmart's is as good as any. Oil delivery system is your choice, I don't have a problem with mixing the oil and gas but some do!

Re: oil injection removal
Without the mixture, your engine would get severely damaged. If the oil pump were to ever malfunction/fail...... That is reason enough for me to mix fuel/oil.

Re: oil injection removal
I would do it. Those oil pumps were notoriously unreliable leading to a lot of failed rings and scored pistons. Those pumps were supposed to deliver more oil when the cart was being run hard, less when it was being run slow, etc. Sounds ok on paper but in practice it wasn't effective and often didn't deliver enough oil at high speeds. Most people disabled them and simply chose to mix the oil / fuel as you are considering. Like TEW said, 1.5 oz to a gallon. (85:1). This way no matter how hard the cart is being run it will be maintaining the proper ratio.

Re: oil injection removal
If I remember correctly, you have to have a plate to hold the points or ignition module in place if you physically remove the oil injection pump.
Another simpler option was to remove the oil line from the carb or intake (where ever it goes) and place it back in the tank or put a T in the line where the oil just makes a loop and goes nowhere instead of going to the engine. With the loop the oil still lubricates the oil pump so it doesn't go out and squeak and squeal. |

Re: oil injection removal
There was a thread around here about that but I can't find it.
You'd be lucky to find the cover for sale. You may be able to use the cover behind the pump if you cover the hole or you may have to fabricate one. |

Re: oil injection removal
All did was cut the oil line at the tank and drained it. I then placed a bolt in the end and put a worm screw/small hose clamp to hold in place on the other end I did the same thing. I did not mess with the vacuum line coming from the engine. Been running it awhile no issues. I am running 60 to 1 right now but will eventually move up the ratio when I become confidant the old cart engine will hold up to my driving. Does not smoke except a little at cold start with choke, no issues yet with fouled plugs. It seems to run better with the new Ebay Mukuni knockoff carb for $25 and the governor unhooked.
I also in my repairs replaced the throttle cable. I noticed that it would kink where it goes into the bracket that holds it under the floor by the throttle. I fixed this by adding a heavy zip tie to hold it inside the little metal bracket to stop it from flexing down. |

Re: oil injection removal
Just use the 85 to 1 ratio for it seems to be safe under the hottest conditions. I ran my cart on the ranch a couple of weeks ago and the temp. was 107 degrees. I would have preferred to be inside hugging the AC but work comes first.
