83 Columbia Clutch Bolt Torque
Anyone know what the clutch bolt that bolts the clutch up to the crank torques down to?
Model D3. |

Re: 83 Columbia Clutch Bolt Torque
Ok thanks. Mine doesn't have what you describe. All I have is a long bolt and a washer. I think the clutch is an aftermarket clutch but not 100% sure. The clutch isn't made to come apart because it has two tack welds holding it together if that says anything.

Re: 83 Columbia Clutch Bolt Torque
The instructions I gave were for a standard HD or Columbia. Your clutch may be an after market or a later model I am not familiar with. Sorry I couldn't help!

Re: 83 Columbia Clutch Bolt Torque
Ok. No problem. I imagine the torque is the same.
Does your clutch come apart for servicing? |

Re: 83 Columbia Clutch Bolt Torque
Yes, the older HD and Columbia clutches will come apart into many pieces. If you can down load the service manuals. I haven't looked but your clutch may be in the later manuals. I will also look this week end.

Re: 83 Columbia Clutch Bolt Torque
I checked the 1996 to present service manual and the clutch can be disassembled. The long bolt torques at 60 to 65 pounds. Download and check the service manual.

Re: 83 Columbia Clutch Bolt Torque
Are you talking about downloading from here?
http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/columbia-parcars/ There isn't an exact manual for 83 model D3. The closest thing I've found is this parts manual: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/colum...GS_UTILITY.pdf So far everything I've worked on is the same as what is in that manual. The clutch on page 8 does look like what I have although I haven't seen the internals of it. I've looked at the 86-88 GS Utilitruck service manual but there is nothing about torque specs. Besides that one, 82 and newer service manuals appear to be electric cars. I've put the clutch bolt on with an air gun. Not sure what its torqued down to but it's on there. |

Re: 83 Columbia Clutch Bolt Torque
I found that parts manual and checked on page 8. I haven't seen a clutch like that one before. Is it possible that the screws that held on the cover stripped or went away and the last owner spot welded it on. Any way if you can get to that bolt torque is probably 60 to 65 pounds or 3/8 air impact tight. exactly where is it welded?

Re: 83 Columbia Clutch Bolt Torque
I think that is your clutch shown in the 82 Columbia service manual chapter 7!
