New to forum new parcar owner
Howdy y'all!!! I recently bought an 87 parcar that barely moved. Long story short I've been tinkering with this thing for a little over a month now searching and reading ALOT on your forums so far I've replaced the drive belt ,driven clutch, Ezgo carb, oil injection delete ,new battery new points and condenser (someone put points on it) and as of yesterday honed the cylinder new piston and rings. It's running better than it ever has but something isn't quite right it's still acting under powered in grass and in hills runs decently on pavement but isn't setting any records maybe 10-13 MPH I'm wondering if the timing is off due to my lack of knowledge on setting it points gap is at .22 any help will be appreciated I'm getting pretty deep into this but I don't wanna give up yet!

Re: New to forum new parcar owner
Timing, the wrong belt, a dished out clutch can cause that issue.
I'd be interested to see a pic of the clutches and the area of the points where they converted it over. Can you describe how you timed it? |

Are you referring to the primary clutch? secondary is new and belt is new and the right one. I didn't really "time" it just put it back the way it was and set gap.

Re: New to forum new parcar owner
You have done a lot or work on that. It seems like most of the suspect areas you have corrected. With all the work you did it's likely that the cart needs to be timed differently now.
I say it until I am blue in the face but timing on these is really tough. I know it's not logical but I have myself convinced that some carts are tougher to time than others. I had my father-in-law's '80 timed and running awesome in about 2 mins and, knock on wood, it's been that way for about 4 years now. My one '85 was the exact same way. Meanwhile, I swear my other '85 just can't be timed via points. I tried for 1/2 day and never did get a good running cart. It was just like yours. It ran but I could tell it was still out of whack. I converted to an electronic module and things have been great since. There is a timing method in the manual. You'll fine a lot of posts about it too. To be honest, those methods never worked for me. I just make tiny adjustments on the points plate until I get it right. TEW here makes a pretty slick timing stop or whatever he calls it. He put a couple of posts out there about it. You may want to look into making one of those to see if that helps you out. |

Re: New to forum new parcar owner
Yeah I have read their a pain and from the little bit of reading I've found it seems the information is vauge in description on exactly how to do it or the was bad at explaining it. To me it seems the timing shouldn't have changed since all I did was replace the points and condenser all I can do from in there is set points gap correct? Any help is appreciated I would like to keep the points since I'm already in the hole pretty deep at this point I don't wanna shell out the $150 for the module unless I absolutely have to.

Re: New to forum new parcar owner
Well after tinkering around with it today in the wonderful 45° Ohio gray I moved it around and really never seen much improvement I got it to TDC moved it down a bit but it's really about where it was I'm thinking it's just time to buy the module or hiring someone to time it!

I have had my points plate move after I just timed it. Make sure they aren't moving back out.

Re: New to forum new parcar owner
I'll check that thank you it's ALOT nicer out today so I'm gonna try and try again I'm gonna try to measure 1" 5/8th and set them where it just starts to open. This is my first points job and I see why people convert them it takes ALOT of patience with theses carts if I can't get it today I'm gonna try to find someone that can

Re: New to forum new parcar owner
No not neccessarily. You are right in the range in which they run. Mine run 17 on flat ground. I believe Lochins will run 21 but he has a supercart or something. I wouldn't mess with the timing anymore unless you can put it right back.
